Considering the 2005 incident with the horse as perspective, it seems he may be, slowly, on the road toward normalizing his relationship with society.
I think he might have had a better shot if his lawyer hadn't quoted Billy Crystal (in The Princess Bride 1987) "There's a big difference between mostly dead, and all dead." It's never a good idea to sum it all up by quoting Billy Crystal to the court.

Back when I was a young buck prosecutor (pun intended, but work with me here) I tried a graffitti case.

The guy had been scrawling Apocalyptic graffiti on buildings all over downtown L.A.

In closing argument I quoted from Simon and Garfunkel:

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls"

And whispered in the sounds of silence

Then I told the jurors that perhaps "real" prophets wrote their messages on walls, but that THIS defendant was no prophet.

They convicted him.

And on my very first child molestation trial I quoted, in closing argument, from The Carpenters' Bless The Beast and The Children:

Bless the beasts and the children
For the world can never be
The world they see
(*) light their way
When the darkness surrounds them
Give them love
Let it shine all around them
(**) bless the beasts and the children
Give them shelter from a storm
Keep them safe
Keep them warm

Then I told thejurors to go and do the "right thing" and protect the children (the victims in the case).

They also convicted.

So, the judicious use of stuff from pop culture can work. The key term is "judicious."

Legal question: Why is it against the law to have sex with a DEAD deer?

How can you abuse something that is dead?

Is it it still bestiality? Could the police arrest you for say... screwing a pot roast? Sounds stupid, but it's the same thing.
