Shipping & handling from the UK to US

I just won these euro lights set from a seller inthe UK for my w123...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=ADME%3AL%3ARTQ%3AUS%3A1&viewitem=&item=220093151490

THe conversion to USD is makes my price 239.

but now the guy in UK is asking me to pay an extra 100GPB or = to 196.32 for his Shippping & "handling" charges

So my total cost is 435.

They are nice looking lights, but I think he is extorting me on the shipping and the "trouble of sending to the USA.

What do you think?

Yep, he's extorting you.

But, he wants to completely cover is behind because he's got no real idea of the cost to ship.

If you don't mind waiting for the post office, the cost to ship them should not be more than $50.

Get him to obtain a fixed cost from the post office and add a "reasonable" handling fee.

Did you ask him for a shipping quote BEFORE you bid?

I have been selling some motorcycle parts on ebay. I just checked this morning on shipping to the UK. I have a box that I guarantee those would fit in. It was something like $70 to ship to UK.

I think he is trying to rope you on "handling" charges.

Thanks.

I sent him back that I would offer him 50 GPB or like 100. to close the deal.

( I figure my price would still be OK.)

If not I have a friend in London about 50 miles away thatmay be able to pick them up....

That's the cheapest option by far.

If not........have him ship the lights to London and have your friend ship them to the US at cost.

For next time...

I've found it better to clear these things up BEFORE bidding, on ebay Europe and UK, by asking the seller on the auction what the shipping cost would be, using xe.com as the suggested currency converter. I like to have everything clear on the door to door cost before bidding to win. In a few cases the seller NEVER responded to my question, and in those cases, I took it to mean they didn't care for American buyers to bid, and I just didn't.

Looking at the auction, it is clear the seller hadn't contemplated Amercian bidders (no indication of "worldwide" shipping). The price for shipping seems high and maybe he had no clue of what to ask for American bidders to pay.

I agree you can make it a moot point if you simply arrange to have it shipped to a London friend who can forward it to you, then you'll get it for a shipping cost you will be comfortable with. It's the weight that makes the cost high.

But they look to be in good condition, and you get real EURO light for the front AND rear, which will be cool.

I just can't believe that you would bid on an item without checking shipping costs ESPECIALLY from overseas.

I learned that lesson Eh?

I do alot of shipping worldwide for my business & figured if it was 100. usd or less I would be OK at this price. Which is what it should be...

Anyway he just got back to me & agreed to lower the cost to 100. ( more or less since he's not familiar with shpping to US..)

S&&t for the first price he could have got them their own seat on VIrgin Air & a hotel in Disney World for the night....

I get highly irritated when idiots on Ebay try to charge you 3x what shipping really cost. They try to make up what they lost on the item and get it back in shipping. Kind of like those $0.99 items that cost $100 to ship.

Do you realize that the light pattern is going to be wrong due to the UK driving on the opposite side of the road?

In all that excitement....

^^^^Uh oh. RHD, in the UK, so that could be very well true. I forgot about that. Could the lights be adjusted some way, or is it an irremediable problem?
