Considering that 92% of the American public thinks blood is blue -- I would say that expecting them to have a firm understanding of complex geopolitical matters is probably a far reach!

Methinks you protest too much. You yourself stated that the Sandinistas assasinated the last Somoza and took power. Everything I've found on the subject indicates that he saw the handwriting on the wall, stepped down, fled to Miami where he was not allowed entry, and went to Paraguay where he was killed.
A small error but it does hint at a casual perusal of the history of the situation. Oh well, sue me, I have researched the topic and tried to arrive at some understanding. Perhaps the most interesting document I found was an article in The Nation, circa 1961 entitled "Nicaragua: Another Cuba?" You've read that one? As soon as I can figure out a way to get a file sharing service going that'll allow me to share adobe docs, I'll have an URL for it. It's not available with the usual sort of web link. Some absolutely mind blowing info in that piece that was certainly not shared with the US public under Reagan. The tone and tenor of it, along with much of the information, checks out with other sources. Some of the best parts I can't confirm anywhere else, likely because that info did not appear anywhere else. The author spent years as a journalist in Nicaragua and was present at various meetings between the Somozas and US diplomats.

Anybody else heard or read the story about how Thompson's li'l red pickup he used as a prop during his Senate race(s) was just that: a prop that he drove only for photo ops? While stories were circulated that the drove the state in it?

I know your sig-line and I have the 'feeling' you're not the inventor of it. Nevertheless, it doesn't matter, since the majority of the earth's population is mostly unfamiliar with either one of it, 'think vs. feel' is a rather irrelevant subject, much less does it matter, whose retarded cousin 'liberalism' represents. Just another hotchpotch phrase. My personal take: A human being needs to capacitate both, thinking and feeling. One cannot replace or exclude the other. Here is an old Italian saying: "Think with your head and f*** with your d!*k. Not the other other way around" Prior to that it went from 'Jew hating Nazi' to 'liberal with a pride'. Boy, that's quite a stretch. Someone laying their life down for this "Great and Free Country" ? That's really an individual choice. (Still, the question remains, how great and free is it really, if people have to sacrifice their lives for it?) Thankfully, there are plenty of choices, besides the 'getting killed, served your country well' option. What makes you think, I wouldn't or didn't already lay my life down? The fact that I'm not dead yet, wouldn't let me receive that honour? Pacifist!? Ofcourse, I am! It also is a wise decision to keep me there! If that makes any sense to you. Am I US Citizen? It isn't really anyone's business around here, but let me ask you this: Did you think I'm Martian? Last not least. Thank you truly for your invitation, I hold this up in your favor, but I don't think we're ready for such an encounter. Maybe some day in the future. I thank you again for your hospitality. That's a rare find.
