I am not talking about closing attorneys, I am talking about local government, and planning and zoning.

Its great (or sad) TV lol
In a way I can sympathize with the sheriff -- he's got an enormous liability on his hands, a heavily lawyered up liability.

So a poor guy can't get the city to vote on zoning a parcel of land R-3 and the landowner can. Well, no kidding.....

The votes have to be public. If something is zoned under the table then the public is stupid for letting it happen.

She would have to first make a showing that her civil rights, under the U.S. constititution, were violated.

Not that easy.

Inmates can be forced to take their meds. Inmates can be put on 24-hour watch.

This was a naked power grab by publicity hungry Sheriff Baca.

She is always whining about his budget and has, in the past, done mass release of inmates in order to frighten the public into giving him more money.

And in his news confernece he kept talking about "justice," about not making Paris a "football" and about justice failing her just because she is "rich."

Baca is pandering to his celebrity buddies and rich patrons.

Baca is widely regarded as the worst-ever L.A. Sheriff and, as I have stated before, he is disliked by his own deputies.

By comparison, his predecessor (Sherman Block) was well-liked, well-respected and a man of integrity.

JD, I am with Hattie on this.

I was a Planning Commissioner and Chairman of our city's Planning Commission.

It did nothappen here, but I've heard enough about it to believe that it was happening in many other places.

Apparently he has also received campaign money from the Hilton's for his election to the job. It just gets better

This whole thing is stupid IMO. It's more of a class envy issue than legal issue if the elected Sheriff decided to put her on home confinement so be it. I bet its a PIA for the guards to protect her its a waste of valuable resources IMO.

I am a bit prejudiced because of my opinion on confinement overall. I think that sentences should be served to benefit society. In Paris Hiltons case LA county would be much better served if her notoriety was used to help. Martha Stewart was another example how did society benefit from her jail term vs. the alternate of her helping battered women start their own business and take control of their lives?

Okay I'll admit I have to agree with you, Howie.

Pictures of Paris in an orange jumpsuit picking-up trash along the highways would be pretty cool.

So what of it? Any of us here never pulled a stunt like the sheriff? I must be the only devil on a board of saints then.

I just can't shake the idea that it is a green eyed monster at work here. Don't get me wrong. I DON'T condone what PH did. However, seems that when others do it, they get the "boys will be boys" thing. When somebody rich does it, "WTF is that guy doing thinking that he is above the law?" Any of you traded favors, influence, bribed, etc, etc to advance your cause? I know I have. How different is it from what she does? Oh, a little guy does it and it is cute. Richie Rich does it and it is bad. Hmmmm.

I can understand if PH did something horrible to you and you are gleeful that she is in trouble. But come on. Just because she has more resources than we have doesn't mean that she is the devil and we are saints. Fact is, we give breaks and receive breaks, trade favors, etc, etc to advance our causes. Why is she so bad when she does it but we are fine although we do it?

Too good for her. We will have to make it like prison. Clap her in irons and give her a small room with a bathroom, frequent strip searches, etc, etc. I suggest my bedroom.

What do I think of Paris Hilton? Not much either way. But really, I don't give a damn.

What I do not like is favoritism in the justice system. It is a fact of life that rich folks get a better deal in the courts -- yet another good reason to be rich, isn't it? I'd rather be rich and powerful than poor and a pawn. But I don't really want to put forth the effort necessary to be rich -- I have achieved my comfort level. Now I am looking forward to somebody else buying a winning lottery ticket and giving it to me. Or discovering Lafitte's hidden treasure in my yard. Or a golden meteor hurtling down into my home--what a rush!

So Paris in an orange jumper doing weekend penance picking trash from the highways would serve justice in my mind, given the crime. Every weekend for say, 20 consecutive weekends. 8 hrs Saturday and Monday.

Good morning Ms Hilton. Here is your jumper and your trash bag. On 37 more trash days to go!
