"Best" Mercedes for City Driving

City as in busy suburban, not downtown driving. Parking is not an issue.

My new business endeavor is soon approaching and I'll be taking care of customers and calling on new ones within a ~3 mile radius of my office. Most of it on 35-45mph roads, the occasional short blast on a highway. Commute is about 7 miles round-trip, slugging around 45 mph.

That S600 isn't well suited for that sort of work, so I wouldn't have much of a chance to let her run.

My plan is to dump the 600 and buy something smaller, more nimble and cheaper. Age doesn't matter... My thought was as an SLC, 190-16v (one for sale near me right now), 124 coupe, POS's 280E AMG looks interesting. It could even be a 2 seater with some space for dogs.

Tossing around the idea right now...

I'll have ONE HELLUVA time selling that 600. May end up at the dealer.

Ideas?

Cool idea, but still too much car.

That could work down the road, but foolish to drop $65K right now when getting into a new venture.

No diesels and no C-class. Looks like POS sold his 280 AMG, neat car.

Maybe...
There's a clean one under $20K FS at the Clubwagon site, but it's in New Mexico-- too damn far. Might be a few G's around here, but they're $$late model$$.

What about a 190 2.6? I have to imagine that it's less expensive to run than a 2.3-16.

Second the W210. An E320 will get the job done, an E430 will do it that much faster and there's always the E55 - but you'd probably go slightly mental not being able to unwind that car too often. I'd go for the E320 for your commuting needs, given the short distances and for city gas consumption. The M112 is a great, peppy engine! Mind you, going from an S600 turbo to an E320 would hurt, so yeah, maybe the E55...

I just had a 210! Argh. Probably should have kept it.

Maybe I could find a tuned 210 E55. They pop up every so often...

...something to consider. The Cossie's are very high strung and $$ to maintain. Most on the market are beat too...
