Rabbit report.

A year later and 19k miles on the clock and the Rabbit we bought our daughter is running strong and free of problems.

I think that the chaps at Wolsfburg finally took care of some of their previous QC problems.

For just about $20K, loaded to the gunwales, the Rabbit is fun to drive, fast, stable and trouble fee.

Someday soon, my friend, you will make tons of money and then a Rabbit will seem like just a toy.

It is a very nice car though. And in spite of all the dire predictions of endless problems, the car has survived one year of my daughter's driving!

Have we grown so pessimistic of German quality that we now celebrate 20K trouble-free miles?

I haven't?

Have you?

If I suspected the quality of German cars I would not own 4 Benzes and one Rabbit.

When I bought the new Rabbit for my daughter there were naysayers who said that I would regret the choice.

This is my way of saying: you were wrong and I was right!

Is that 80K miles in one single road trip?

Or 80K miles divided among many short trips?

OK, so she has almost 20K in one year. We will see 3 years from now.

BTW I occasionally read the long-range test reports from the various car magazines. It seems like every car has this or that issue to deal with.

That is why I am so happy with the Rabbit's performance to date.

I don't want to jinx it though.

Timothy hay is what I recommend for rabbits of the organic variety.

Timothy Hay

This daughter's Rabbit is as economical as the other daughter's C320 wagon (a heavier car with a bigger engine). But the Rabbit can get by on regular.

Try feeding regular unleaded to a Benz.

I had a 78' diesel rabbit that was a brilliant car.

It would be dated (read under powered and tin-can-esque) today...

but I have high hopes for the new incarnation of the model, so I'm rooting for you.

Thanks. Time will tell, I know.

In the meantime, however, the 6-speed DGS tranny is a blast to drive.
