1,998 foot television tower...brought down by severe icing and weather.
WEAU TV13 - Eau Claire. Went off the past evening during the NBC show "The Biggest Loser" and is scrambling to get its signal back on the air. Apparently, the Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office had one of its patrol cars come upon the tower laying across the county road. They in turn notified the TV Station about its tower's situation. The station had already mobilized it's engineering staff to head out to the transmitter site to see what, exactly, the problem was. Instead, they were told. After arriving on the site, initial observations seem to be that a section of the tower did strike the transmitter building, but damage to the structure doesn't appear to be too great...the daylight will show anything that couldn't be seen in the snow and dark. However, the transmitter and supporting equipment don't appear to be damaged. Contact has been made with local broadcasting outlets and they in turn will be helping out with any resources they have at their avail. WEAU TV13 (NBC) serves the La Crosse/Eau Claire television market - DMA/ADI #127. Sooooo...how's your Wednesday starting out? |
A LOT better than yours. Just gotta drive 60 miles to do a unit swap out. Bringing it back to the shop for a complete service. Get back to town and head on over to the transmission shop to pick up a axle housing unit. Sure hope I've got enough sun block. Driving in the desert sunshine can be brutal.:P

3-9" snow in the forecast here. I'm debating whether to plow-up tonight or just see what it looks like in the morning. Murphy's Law will take over no matter what I do. My project for the day will be to get a 1/2 truckload of onion sets (think baby onions ready to plant) from Beecher, IL to here, in a reasonable amount of time, for less than truckload price. I've got my broker, the grower's broker and Freightquote all searching. The issue is that they can't freeze so they need to go in a reefer :pimp: trailer for temperature control. Slightly annoying but nothing like losing a 2000' tower!:) |
Happy Hump Day, everybody. Every year dealing with that excruciating phenomenon known as "income tax return preparation," is one of the things I dread most in life. I've been putting it off for several weeks until last night. I sat down as soon as I got home from work and by 11:30 I had that sum***** pretty well knocked out.
Yaaay! I feel like a tremendous load has been lifted off my shoulders. Looking forward to the Powerpig GTG this weekend. I hope you can make it, too. It'll be great to see folks again for the first GTG after the Winter. |

Have fun at the 'pig's! Someday I'll make it down to one. |
a.m. planting strawberries, onions, potatoes. Fencing a new garden section off from the beasts, trimming some hooves and vaccinating. p.m. meeting at district office to see how much they'll pay me to consult on textbook selection.

It's going to be 85F today, clear skies, awesomeness.

Well now looks like Austin is going to be my on and off home for the next 45 days. I was wanting to avoid the start-up business there but its much better than Ohio was last month.

Well, I found out yesterday that the 1st estimate for the *ding* in the side of the 450SLC is about $3K. Either today or tomorrow, I'll have MY bodyshop give me their estimate. As a few folks had mentioned, the PROGRESSIVE guy is going to let me know the "value" of my SLC later today or tomorrow. AFAIC, tuff *****...They'll pay to get the *ding* fixed and that's that.
Just to find out...does any know if the mid-70s 450SLC series had a re-enforced crash bar in the door and side panels? And, as if that wasn't bad enough, we're getting predictions of some more snow...it may be "trace" amounts...but it's still snow...with the required "running of the salt trucks" as a precursor to the event. I swear, the crows around this area aren't dying from some mutant strain of Avian Flue. It's from hypertension and their own high BP from all the damn salt they're consuming with the road-kill they're eating... |
doing laundry and chilaxing.

Dropped the wagon off at the mechs.... :(

Back to work today.....I'm glad Spring is here makes the walk to work pretty nice. Hope everyone has a great day!
|
Sitting here in the office by myself, trying to motivate myself to work . . . .

Spring has sprung, the grass has ris, I wonder where the warmth is?
The goofy weather continues. Cool, grey, upper 40's. We need it to warm up so folks get out in their gardens and yards! Or at least so the stuff they put in the ground weeks ago will start to grow. Been pretty busy with the Spring deliveries, though, so I'm cautiously optimistic... |
