The Northstar is approximately 80 lbs. heavier than the PRV. Could be enough to give a problem.

I would go for that aluminum corvette motor before the caddy, I think.

I have a friend who has a caddy with that motor and it is using oil big time. It is the third caddy he has had with that motor and all have done this around 40 or 50K miles.

I am not sure why he keeps buying them.

Why would anyone care if they make a second hopeless attempt..?

You may as well have announced a second attempt by YUGO , of which probably, actually, has a better shot at it than Delorean does anyways .

The Northstar motor was based on the Corvette ZR-1 motor, except it was built by GM not Mercury Marine. I had one, and it used a quart every thousand miles. This, on a car I bought with 25k miles, and it had the oil changed at the dealer every 3k.

I have heard of northstar conversions for these, but haven't seen one. I did see one with a 5.0 Land rover (or maybe it was a cadillac) engine in back and a 4 cyl honda up front.... why????

I used to be WAY big into D's when I was younger and knew quite a bit, most of which I have forgotten to make room for useless training courses from MB From time to time I check out some for sale looking for a good one, I'll probably pick one up someday.

GM engines have been an issues for some time now. Especially the Northstar V-8's. They like to oval the cylinder walls, hence the piston slap. Dealerships deny and deny. My mom's equinox with 60k on it hasn't shown signs of piston slap but has the dreaded Dexcool aka Death cool, coolant in it.

back on topic..

so.. what is stainless steel and has gullwing doors... a delorean. That is what

Oh man, you guys crack me up! The Delorean DMC-12 only weighs 2712lbs. As a little comparison:

1981 Corvette : 3300
1981 Datsun 280 Turbo : 2960
1981 Ferrari 308 : 3320
1981 Ferrari Mondial : 3500
1981 Maserati Merak : 3200
1981 Porsche 911 : 2700
1981 Porsche 928 : 3200

I've seen a Mazda tri-rotor, SBC, SBF, Northstar and BB Caddy motor conversion. The only motor mod I know of is the ONE Legend twin-turbo kit that was sold.

Oh, and DMCH (H for Houston) has been selling "new" D's since atleast '04. I priced one out at about $35k back then...but they're $60k now?! Talk about market change. Now that they're all 25 yrs old and JZD has passed away their collectibility is only getting stronger.

I bought an 83 DMC-12 last night...and it's been sitting at a house only 3-4 blocks away from me for the last 2 years!

If your numbers are correct, the Deloren would have a power to weight ratio that was not all that different from the porsche 911 base model of a few years earlier.....what years were the delorean made?
