A friend's Dad had one when we were in high school. We cruised the strip dozens of times and it often overheated. The car was well liked until the DeLorean coke scandal, then people pointed and laughed.

They were slow (my buddy could blow it away in his Olds wagon) but very comfortable.

I suppose you have to be a die hard Delorean fan, to feel that it's a good idea. I personally never really liked them very much. I only actually liked the ones with the Chevy 350 and 400 small blocks in them. There was a limited number of these, and the cars actually moved very well with those engines in them. Aside from that, I never had a use for the cars...

Stainless steel is bringing in as much as $2.00 a pound at scrap yards these days in my area though..

I always thought that he had used Buick 3.8 liter engines running with a 2bbl carb instead of fuel injection. You learn something new every day on this board!

I read that the "Back to the Future" guys dropped Porsche engines in their cars. No wonder Marty could get rubber! I am now thinking about a nice DMC with a 928 engine in it...

I'd rather a Bricklin. I remember sitting in a new Safety Orange example in the local Buick/Pontiac/Bricklin dealer and thinking what a cool car that was. Depending on the year, they were equipped with either a AMC 360 or Ford 351. They were built like tanks, but like most low-production cars, a little underdeveloped, so things would tend to fall off in your hands.

For the kind of money they want for them you can get a number of good mid engined cars. Like Ferrari 308/328's, or a Honda NSX.

For $60k I'd rather get an NSX, its just a better car in all regards.

For a lot of years I had a D'Tamasso Pantera. It was also a very under developed car. It did however have a big block Ford in it. It was mid engined and would move at about a 160mph top speed. Because of the torque and gearing the car also ran a very respectable quarter mile time. It didn't really handle worth a damn, and was comparable to Mustang handling of the day. Maybe a hair better, because of it's mid engine. I'd buy another Pantera, before ever spending the same amount on a Delorean. They can actually be had these days for less than Delorean, if you look around a little. I sold mine for $47k (Which was actually a very high price for the car)four years ago. It was a very low mileage, and almost flawless car. It had a full body kit, with huge 13 inch wide rear tires, and fender flares front and rear. The car looked pretty sick, but wasn't as fast and agressive as it appeared to be. The looks of some cars are truely deceiving sometimes. I was satisfied with the gained space in the garage, and filled it with an 81 300CD, as soon as I had the chance..

This has got me thinking... The one I coveted back in the day was the Lotus Esprit Turbo.

A guy near me has a '75 Panterra... that car IS bad @ss! He has hopped up the Ford 351and it can take just about anybody in the area.

The three cars used for Back to the Future had no engine mods added. Only horrible sound effects

they had to raise the back end of the car for the mall scene in the first movie to get it to spin the wheels.

no other engines were ever installed from the factory other then the PRV6. anything else you see is all done afterward. The band I played with back in 2004 was invited to play at the DeLorean Car Show in Pigeon Forge Tennessee that year. They asked us to learn to play Huey Lewis' and the News' "Back in Time" for the event, go figure . 118 cars from all over the country were there, quite a sight.

There are faster cars than Ferrari but nothing feels or drives like a Ferrari (period).

That Ferrari in the that youtube video looked like a wallowing pig of a W123 compared to the Pantera, I wonder if it was stock and the Pantera very much upgraded.

For starters the Pantera had stock 310hp put against a '73 365 and it might be a different story.

JD was a good guy. I use to see him in town all the time, lived up the road apiece. I remember going to garage sale at his estate years ago, he had alot of his personnel auto books for sale, should have bought a bunch but didn't.

His former estate was absolutly gorgeous, now turned into exclusive country club for big time exec's owned by the Donald.
