We tend to think of Indians as bright since we see the ones who ARE bright enough to get the hell out of India and come here to work and learn. Point is that well over 50% of Indians are illiterate. Therefore, a good % of those are dummer than a box of rocks. And thats when you get these archaic rules or beliefs, when folks are too dumb to not beleive what they are told, typically by people who are as ignorant as they are. I do mean ignorant, not dumb.
