Insurance question

So a few weeks ago I was trying to jump my Winnebago with my Dodge pickup. My driveway slopes down leading into the garage. I had the truck running in neutral being held by the parking brake. So I went to open the hood on the Dodge and pulled the brake release instead and my truck rolled into my garage door. Yikes!

So I scratched my truck, bent some lawn chairs and pushed in my garage door. The garage door will not open and close now.

So I realize now my insurance agent has been stalling talking to me because he is saying I cannot get an insurance claim if the loss is self inflicted.

I am having trouble with this concept. If I drop a cigarette and burn my house down is it not covered? This is a loss caused by my truck so it should be covered under my auto policy imho.

Any insurance experts out there?

I am not an insurance expert. I've been looking around the net and it looks like insurance companies may with a leaning toward probably pay when you have collision coverage and the incident was accidental.

Good luck,

Not sure it is a good idea to involve your insurance for a small issue. Setting yourself up for the absent minded premium increase

It seems it would be an accident due to negligence. It's definitely an accident.

To me, either your auto or homeowners policy, possibly both, should cover this. Your deductible might be too high for much compensation though.

You probably already know most of this already but this site has some good info:

Long ago I had an insurance company that refused to pay. They quickly paid after one letter from an attorney.

Insurance companies are a funny animal. Even if you do get them to pay, they have a way to recoup the loss by raising your premiums. Sometimes they may wait a year or two to raise your premiums. That way the rate increase doesn't look like it is related to your claim.

They are sneaky rats........

May depend upon the company/policy but I stuck my foot through my ceiling when I running wires up.in the attic. I was covered but the deductible news higher than the cost so I repaired not my self.

My next house will be built using a newer construction technique; i.e. fire proof, termite proof, earthquake proof, etc. I am planning on not purchasing any home owner's insurance; I'll put the money into hip national bank.

You need to look up the difference between 'proof' and 'resistant'. No house is earthquake proof. Resistant, yes, proof, no. If a raging fire comes through your area, you house will be destroyed if the fire can reach your house. You would have to create a 50' or 100' air gap around your house with no combustible material.

Unless you pay cash for your construction, you will be getting home owners insurance. Should you live in an area where natural catastrophes happen (any where on earth) you may end up regretting the decision not having insurance.

At least they are liable for damage to your house created by the vehicle. Certainly if it was not intentional.

Physically the vehicle created it. It was just an accident. I also do not think there should be a deductable involved. Other than for a collision repair on the truck itself portion.

Let us know how it works out. Small claims courts or even the threat of them in a case like this they should pay. Unless you have some form of screwy policy. Vehicle insurance is regulated heavily though. Property insurance not so much. It sounds like a pretty minor claim and most insurance companies want a little good will apperance. Or have I become delusional with age?

I highly recommend reading this book:

https://www.amazon.com/Delay-Deny-Defend-paperback-JayM-Feinman/dp/0989501701/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2QI6VYLR8W605&keywords=Deny%2C+Delay+defend+book&qid=1644942699&sprefix=deny%2C+delay+defend+book%2Caps%2C73&sr=8-1

The world of insurance made a BIG change in the early 1990s......and not for the better....... Remember, insurance is one of the world's OLDEST businesses and is the only TRILLION dollar business in the United States. There is a reason Warren Buffet is all up in it.......
