Ever try cork for sound-deadening?

I'm curious as to how well this would work under the mats in my w123. Do you think there would be a problem with it holding moisture? I'm just trying to keep engine noise out of the cabin, and don't want to spend big bucks on dynomat and stuff. Thanks!

I don't have an answer for you, but I love the noise from my OM617, especially at idle or at highway speeds.

Those diesels just sound so incredibly SOLID when they're idling!

Main roads, and idleing aren't really whats bothering me. Its the whole 70-80 mph thing where I can hardly conversate with the smokin' hot passenger that I've recently acquired (annd this is something I want to do for me, the chick is NOT nagging me, just for ball-busting sake)...

Cork can indeed lead to effective sound deadening.

Whenever my wife invites her parents over I always pull one an hour in advance.............................

The organic properties of cork probably doesn't lend itself well to car environments...heat cold, degredation, and possibly attract critters that might want to feed on the cork...

I don't think something that is not fire proof would be fun to use in a car. In the event of a fire its just more fuel to the fire

I have seen cork as sound deadner in older cars (don't remember which one). I think it would make a decent sound barrier, BUT, as mentioned above, it can absorb moisture, so if you car is leaky or has a dripping A/C, this is going to exaserbate (sp) the wet carpet problem. Iwouldn't worry about fire hazard, if the cars catches ablaze, that is not going to make that big of a difference. I would think that the non-organic sound pads would be less expensive than cork, though.
