Ever try cork for sound-deadening?

I'm curious as to how well this would work under the mats in my w123. Do you think there would be a problem with it holding moisture? I'm just trying to keep engine noise out of the cabin, and don't want to spend big bucks on dynomat and stuff. Thanks!
