Cork can indeed lead to effective sound deadening.
Whenever my wife invites her parents over I always pull one an hour in advance.............................

The organic properties of cork probably doesn't lend itself well to car environments...heat cold, degredation, and possibly attract critters that might want to feed on the cork...
