I thought about joining the Marines or Coast Guard, maybe Navy for a bit, but decided to pursue other areas. I don't think I'd work well in a very structured environment. I kinda of regret not trying to get into the officer core now.

What does this have to do with this topic?

You're making statements on a topic that you know nothing about.

Ahh yes the old argument. How do I know nothing about it? Just because I have not been in the military doesn't mean I don't know about it. How many times have you been to Iraq? Whats your military service history?

So you can only discuss on topics you have experianced in person? Well since I have never run for office, politics is out. Have you run for office?

So who in this thread has served in the military? If you havn't I have to delete your post.

Irrelevant.

Would you suggest that someone who did not play in the NFL could not cover NFL games?

Would you suggest that someone who never lived under Communism could not speak on the relative merits or demerits of that system?

Would you suggest that because I did not live in Britain during WWII, I cannot become something of an armchair expert on Churchill?

Yes, I would suggest exactly that. The best commentators on the NFL actually participated in the game.
Did Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rove, ever experience war?

I don't agree with many of your other points but you are spot on IMO, I can't stand the cheerleaders myself unfortunately like any other war the proponents will not put their own children in harms way .

I would like to see the rest of the data, how many of these are reservists? I think there is more to the story.

Are you kidding me? Dierdorf, Theismann, and Maguire should be banned from uttering anything related to football. Make it sports in general just to be safe.

That Howard Cossell sure did have a short career, didn't he?

Guess Hillary would be your choice next? How about Edwards? Biden, Kucinich, Giuliani............

Are you equating watching a football game with waging war?
I'm not guessing- you're full of poop.

He said he would do his duty. He knows more about what he would do than you ever will, so technically you are making statements on a topic that you know nothing about.

Come up with some more cliches (that apply, are relevant) while you wait.

First off, I'll state this: I served in IRAQ for a 1-year tour. I feel that I may very well be better informed than most on this subject. I am NOT saying that I am, just may be. I am Military Police, which means I ran humanitarian mission security, convoy escorts and EPW operations as well as prisoner transport.

No, I don't think so. There's a job to do, and I've volunteered to do what is my country requests of me. All that matters is that we are there, and we will stay until the job is done.

Chas, correct me if I'm wrong, but you come across as a Bush hater. You state that you are a Vietnam Vet, awesome. What exactly did you do, and how long was your tour in Vietnam? I'm just curious. Several of your statements concern me though:

Others have claimed the the increase is statisically insignificant. From your figures it's apparent that desertions took a jump right around the time W was elected.
Yes, desertions have increased...I CAN READ. Didn't I provide the data? Or? There is no "or." Desertions have increased AND we are better off. If I can trust my buddies 100% at all times and NEVER have to worry about them disappearing on me, we can all complete our missions, faster, safer and more efficiently. I don't want to hear any PFC Lynch-isms "I just joined for the college money." Wah wah wah,

I see no reason for a comparison between GB's election and the spike in desertions. You see the spike took place in FY2000 right? That's Oct 1 1999 to Sep 30, 2000.

And this is because YOU have been there, and can confirm that what he says is true or not? You have been to Vietnam, not Iraq right? The soldiers that I spoke to that have been to both said that they are very different.

What exactly is that supposed to mean? Do you know of a person better suited to wage war? Just because someone may have been to a war doesn't mean they know how to lead.

I know many persons better suited to waging war, and all of them think invading Iraq was a mistake. The list starts with GHW Bush.
