I dont want nor do i need the title I want the Manufacturers Certificate of Origin or as some call it the Manufacturers Statement of Origin. The MCO or MSO is the only document I want the dealer to give me as well as a statement from the bank saying that there is no lein on the vehicle.

I sold cars for a few years.
Quote:
The MSO is a line (brief statement) on the window sticker of a NEW car. After the initial sale and registration, the MSO amounts to needless data. I don't know of any state that allows the sale of a new or used car without a title. Here in NC that is actually illegal. If fact, if you don't have a title in most states you are required to file a lost title search (at filer's expense). The exceptions might be for cars older than a specified age or junk cars. Since you mentioned exporting or reselling I'm guessing these last two don't apply? If you are buying it outright there would be no bank statement in the picture, as you are not financing it through a bank. If you did finance it, the bank would tell the state then the state would clear the lein. The "statement of no lein" is issued at the same time the title is printed with your name on it. I know in Alabama there is a separate piece of paper from the title that is a "lein status" or something like that. In most other states any lein or brand (if applicable like salvage, flood, repo) would be on the face of the title. In any case, you must have a title to transfer it to another person or export it.
