Cars seen during our two weeks in Poland

I would post the pix, but I can't seem to load any pictire resizing programs on my new laptop. So, here they are in my Putfile pages:

http://www.putfile.com/waybomb/images/169916

There' s a E class hearse, a new B class and a new C class I took pix of at a Benz Dealer outside of Rzseszow. I even have new car books, in Polish, for the A class, B class, C clas, CLS (notice the deisel CLS), and others. I saw, but couldn't get the camera up and running quick enough, an ML430 CDI. Is there such a thing, or simply badged that way?

I have pics of an old Trabant we saw at a Tesco store, and a some itsy bitsy Fiats.

You'll also see pics of a Benz Mini-van.

I'll be putting up pics of Auschwitz 1 and Birkenau (Jeezez Christ is that something to see - how could anybody do that to anybody is beyond me), the salt mines, the Wawal Castle in Krakwo, the churches and a couple of pipe organs of Krakow, and some general pics of the old town Krakow.

I really enjoyed this trip. I recomend a few days in Krakow to anybody. The New Year's celebration was awesome. Over 200,000 people howed up to the square, with their only liquor and partying mood. They do know how to get ****-faced over there!

Really good pictures

Vodka is the preferred drink in Poland. it is a national pestilence.

Those blonde women over there are stunning looking aren't they.

Interesting to see those car shots. Too bad they never sold the W210 E250 turbo over here. I would love one of those. It's always good to see the 190D and W123 anywhere in obscure and exotic locations like this.

It will be interesting to see more pictures if you have them. Where you were, this was in what used to be German Silesia, wasn't it? Lost to Poland when it got pushed to the west as a nation, right?

I was given a bottle of Zubrowka Bison Grass Vodka with the grass in it. You can buy the Zubrowka here in the U.S., but not with the grass, This is the real-deal Vodka.

And yes, blond, blue eyes, high heels. I got whiplash from all the head turning.

My wife is from Ropczyce. She does not believe it was going to be part of Silesia. And I have no idea. Ropczyce is about 100 miles east of Krakow.

They have a vodka for every ailment...except when you are hung over. Then diet coke. I really enjoyed poland when I was there in 2003.

You can resize pictures using MS paint.

salt mines? pics?

Trabanned! The car that pollutes like a lorry

Trabanned! The Trabant

The Trabant, an iconic symbol of the former East German state, is to be banned from the Berlin streets which made it famous.
The car became a familiar sight after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. But it produces as much pollution as a small lorry and, as such, will be outlawed from the centre of the capital when an environmentally-friendly zone is created in ten months time to enforce new European Union rules on exhaust emissions.
"The engines are simply major polluters," said a city spokesman. "Ten months more and they, like the country which produced them, will cease to roll through the heart of Berlin."
There are nearly 2,000 registered Trabant owners in Berlin and over 50,000 across Germany. Trabant rallies, picnics, exhibitions and owners' meetings are commonplace.

One had to wait for a Trabbi approx. 10-15 years after the application was approved. They used to call it "A sparkplug with a roof"

I remember seeing one of those parked at the curb on a side street in Bratislava, Slovakia. It was in remarkably good condition, considering it was a Trabant.

The only problem with visiting Poland at this time of year is that the days are too short!!!! But on the good side for photography, the 'golden hour' is all afternoon! I regret that we didn't get to see Wawel castel but, we did see the cathedral and then walked the old town.

The castle was somewhat disappointing to me and my wife. The exterior was very neat, but to get to the inside was expensive, they would not let pictures be taken, and there wasn't really all that much interesting to me in there.
When my wife was a citizen in Poland (at least 28 years ago), she said Wawel had much more displayed and was much more interesting.
