Powerstokes Unite.

Any of you other guys out there have Powerstrokes?

I know Aklim does...

What have you done to mod yours?

Me, I have a 1999 F250 Powerstroke... Light mods, but its hauls ass for a truck.

Yeah, mine has a custom burned, 3 position DP Tuner chip, modified MAP signal, custom open intake system, Southbend Con FE clutch, modified IDM circuitry.

The T444E is a fine industrial truck engine, provides decent power and durability but it's sorely lacking in "modifyability". You have to sink thousands of dollars into the craptastic HUEI fuel system just to get it to the level of say a 12V Cummins with a $600 set of injectors.

I have about $1000 is mods on my truck and it makes less HP than a new stock truck... And oh yeah, you late '01 and up owners watch out because the powedered metal rods can go bang at HP levels more than about 400 or so...

The PSD really needs a HPCR conversion in a bad way for smoothness and power.

One of my fleet trucks is a '96 Econoline 350 w/Powerstroke. No mods but it hauls 2 tons quite nicely, gets 20+ mpg if you keep your foot out of it and has a tick over 260K on it now. If it had AC I'd probably buy it when we replace it.

418WHP and 750WTQ 2004 F350 Crewcab owner here.

While some of these folks may find it fun to poke at the Ford owners. Just remember to make sure to turn away that Ford Tow truck when your OLD mercedes does leave you sitting some place for WHATEVER minor problem you may have. And it does Happen... I've been a lurker here and a poster at another Mercedes Forum.

FOR the record I own the following:

2004 F350 Crewcab Long bed powerstroke 63,000miles
2000 VW Beetle TDI 95,000 mile
1982 Mercedes 300D 234,000 miles

While I LOVE my Mercedes, the versatility of my truck can NOT be matched by ANY vehicle made by Mercedes.

Case in point:
0 to 100MPH in ~14 seconds
Seating for 6 full size adults
The ability to haul 2900lbs in my truck bed
The ability tow my 13,300lbs RV

Closest animal with those capabilities listed above? The Current AMG G55
Acceleration is better
Seating for 5
Payload is half
Towing is half
Price More than DOUBLE

All in all.... Mercedes has built and continues to build WORLD CLASS Diesels. But no need to be a childish jerk about things.

And if any of you want to point out that the 6.0 Powerstroke is a POS. I only have to point to the 3.5 liter Diesel that Mercedes built that liked to bend Rods used between 1990 and 1994.

I have a 2002 F-350 PSD. No mods, but it pulls my trailer and hauls an elk with no problem. Just replaced the balljoints on it last weekend, what a PITA, especially working outside in a dirt/gravel driveway.

1997 OBS, owned since new, 56K miles.

Relatively light mods...chip, cat delete, 4" downpipe, Tymar intake. With the larger CA stock split-shot injectors, these modest enhancements make for a pretty kick-butt setup, without significantly affecting reliability. I've got to keep an eye on temps if towing heavy loads (7K+) up a grade, but that's easy enough to monitor.

Great truck, great engine...and given the crap being put out in the diesel truck market today, I can't ever imagine buying new again.

Also had a 7.3 PSD Sportsmobile/Quigley on an E350 extended chassis a couple years back. Bought it in a moment of weakness, perhaps a bit of mid-life crisis kicking in. Sold it after a year...nothing wrong with it mechanically, and it was actually quite cool for road trips. But it wasn't very practical otherwise, and sucked for towing...had way too much sway compared to the truck, given the 35" meats and distance of the hitch from the axle.

Sure looked cool, though...

I love my 7.3 Powerstroke.

I have the fuel pump shimmed, IDM modded, Gauge Pods, and Edge Computer.

Its pretty fast, especially for a pickup.
