I checked out that book on amazon too....looks pretty good, it's now in the shopping cart. The mixed reviews seem aligned with your suggestion (take what you want/discard the rest)....it seems people expect WAY too much from a book written in 1930 - but many of the core principles probably remain the same. Thanks for the tip B.

Have you read any of John Seymour's books or the Storey's? I'm more familiar with the Storey's.....I think my MIL has a copy of the Basic Country Skills book....I'll have to check it out.

Wow. There's a Storey's guide for everything.
"Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens: Care / Feeding / Facilities"

I have to look into some other books now.

I also took some "darkstar" advice and ordered "Rodale's Illustrated Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening".

Also anything by Rodale Press. They wrote the book (literally) on organic farming.
