I've noticed this as well at Wal-Mart and other places of business in my area in FL.

My grocery store has english only signs and its great.

When "brand" new here, Rosario looked in the closet in my bedroom and saw my folded sweaters in the closest.

She got all excited and upset, and barely able to speak ENGLISH after onlly a couple of weeks here from Peru, she told me this:

YOU MUST NOT PUT THOSE THERE!!!! FOR THEN WILL COME THE HORRIBLE BUTTERFLY OF THE NIGHT...

It melted my heart that she was so worried about my sweaters but could not find the word in English for "MOTH". It was so endearing to someone badly lovestruck in the first place.

That fast became one of her nicknames that I gave her:

When she was mad, (which happened a LOT!!! Those Latinas!!) her name was
"Mariposa Horible De La Noche"

She was my "LOQUITA" ("little crazy girl") when not "MI BEBITA" ("my little baby girl")

It was the ride of a life time, I will tell you that much.......

I bought some stuff at Autozoo. As he was handing back my change, the clerk said "gracias". I replied "te raoi" and tia boo moa". I bet the guy is still trying to figure out if I cussed him out or not...

If companies want to put up signs in different languages, what's it to anyone else? You're obviously not the market being solicited . . . amigo.

There's lots of virtue in diversity, not just assimilation.

The more they don't speak english, the more advantage those who do have over them. No use complaining over something that gives you a leg up....

Just look at Jim B's post. If you want an even bigger leg up... learn spanish. I use it often and it's a great advantage. The world moves forward whether you want it to or not.

Oh yeah, part of it down there is all those damn places are kleptocracies.

The people down there in the Government steal everything - and I said EVERYTHING they can get their hands on. It is a wonder they work at all.

Take Peru. Alan Garcia was President there back in the 1980's. Peru had a decent, social security system there. It actually worked.

Garcia stole it. Literally. Every freakin' centavo. He STOLE THE WHOLE THING.

No more social security in Peru. ¡ NO MAS !

All right, so he got thrown out.

But some people there still liked him. So guess what. He decided to run for President again. Went on TV and said he was sooooooo sorry.
