Inventor of the trigger of first nuclear bomb

Bob Aldredge, died last night. His girlfriend lives on the street behind my house and doesn't drive so I'm taking her to the funeral. I met him at a party a few years ago and he came to speak at our school. His wife, who died many years ago, was the person who discovered the spy ring at Los Alamos.
Never imagined I'd have any connection to one of the most momentous events in human history.

I heard them listing his age as 93...which means he was probably in his early-mid 20s when he was working on the Manhattan Project...

Pretty impressive for a 20-something kid...try finding one of those today in the wonderful world of McWorkers!

We'd end up throwing potatos at each other...potato guns would have yet to be invented...

In the field of physics, most creative work is done early in the career. It's not a law of nature but it's a safe bet.

He kept up his creative work as an adult too. At age 93 he'd had a girlfriend for 22 years that his family didn't know about.

The whole nuclear weapons thing is like a train wreck: horrible to see but, you simply cannot take your eyes off of it because it's so fascinating.

A year or two ago, Bot posted a Rapatronic photo taken milliseconds after a tower detonation...that pic got me started on a wild research trip across the 'net, looking for everything I could find out about nuclear testing and the science behind it all.

No doubt, I'm on a list at the NSA or FBI now but I don't care, the history made during that time was dagonne interesting to read about.

That info was Top Secret; distributed on an eyes-only, need to know basis.

Randy

I have a couple of books you might enjoy. "Christmas Island Cracker" and "Operation Grapple". Both British books, both very rare in this country.
