I'll admit to not being up on my vacuum knowledge. If we were dealing with severe allergies I'd probably know about the Kirby.

I have a Dirt Devil that will suck up small children and animals. I am amazed at the crap that thing brings up- it has a clear container....

That was my intial reaction and my reaction to any pitch. A vacuum is a vacuum. BFD. Until I saw what came out of a regularly vacuumed carpet.

I won't dismiss the fact that they are probably overpriced, I wouldn't pay more than a couple hundred. I wouldn't pay for a mid-line Dyson, I'm sure as hell not going to spring for a Kirby. But it didn't cost me a cent. Well, at least directly. You never know what mom's got up her sleeve.

There was a terrible incident with a Kirby way back when....I was babysitting and helping out with house chores and decided to vacum with the mother of all vacums- THE KIRBY....it vacumed up an area rug and I fought it too the death to release it from the vacums grip....that sold me on those vacums.

I wish I could see a video of that. I'm sure it would have been entertaining.

Who sells Kirbys? I could sure use one!

I used them at churches and jobs where I worked...but most of those places had industiral-grade short-loop carpet, so I couldn't gauge how effective they cleaned.

Even with average maintenance, I can pretty much relegate $100 vacuum cleaners to the boneyard in a couple of years...and I'm not fastidious...I vacuum maybe once a week.

I have thought about Dysons and I too, am put off by the price...but I guess if I have been replacing vacuum cleaners as often as I have, I would have paid for a Dyson by now!

Kirby. I got lucky and saw one there at the vacuum shop. Seems like someone got talked into an upright and wanted a different one with the attachments on board. They hated it and sold it cheap. I bought it cheap. IIRC, it was the Ultimate G Spot model

If you schedule it right, you can keep your floors maintained by having those Kirby door to door guys demo vacuum for free.

Folks that own shedding pets, like labrador and golden retrievers, think the Dyson is the vacuum to get.

Always had a central vac

I grew up in a home with a Vacuflo central vac. I have installed them in most of the homes I have built. I will not use anything else. They exhaust to the exterior, have a large container for debris, no filters. And, one of the most important items, it does not put that foul smell in the air like so many cannister vacs do. Do you Dyson or Kirby users notice any smells when vacuum? I would like to know. I can tell you that getting under furniture and dusting are a snap with the central unit. Just one mans opinion.

Sure, blame me for your mistakes.

Ah, now we know. Still you should unplug it before having sex. After that, have the toaster eat off the breadcrumbs.

Yes it does but that doesn't mean that nature can't have fun with the vacuum every now and then. Think of a guy having sex with his ex wife. They both are satisfied but still divorced.

You have to admit that the Dyson ad campaign is brilliant with its elitist, British accented, almost Apple-like smuggness. Just the thing that Americans seem to go wild for.
