Any grief down your way from the EPA regarding discharge of the non-toxic pink stuff? The marina my father's boat is at in Mystic was fined by the EPA because they weren't containing the stuff coming out of the exhaust when first starting the engines in the spring. They use the same antifreeze in the engines as the potable water tanks, thinking it was environmentally responsible. Apparently not enough.

I don't believe it! The bartenderette did exactly that with my glasses yesterday when I stopped for a burger and soda!

I was "huffing" on my glasses, getting ready to clean them (spray-back/cleaner droplettes from the power-washer) when she stopped me, grabbed a clean bar-rag (First time I saw one of those in the place...that's probably why it was clean! ), dribbled a little "speed rail" onto it and proceeded to shine up my porta-eyes...did an nice job...I just stayed away from anyone lighting a cig 'til the alcohol quit evaporating...and my eyes quit watering...the vodka will suck the juices off the surface of your eyes...

This little "trick" didn't just show up on some TV-yak-show or women's mag just recently, did it?

Not yet but its coming, in CA I know you can't. Out there they will shoot you because the environment is more important than your life!

Its Federal--they just may not be enforcing it where you are. There is a sign up at the marina where we fuel up in VA with a whole list of no-no discharge items, including the pink stuff.

We are slow to enforce stuff like that up here.

Now when they haul the boats they have to have a special filter that catch's the water. I guess its fine to have the bottom paint in the water, just not spray it on land.

Its when its airborne that bottom paint is a problem. Around the 'Bay, the yards have to wet or vac-sand it now. Now that I have learned so much about mesothelioma vicariously through my wife, I am damn glad I always wore an air-fed suit when I was grinding on that stuff. I am also glad we have our own sling lift and a 10 horse pressure washer.......

I know that crap is bad for you so I always avoid it. I won't sand bottom paint, even when I worked at the marina I never did.

Pressure washing it can't be any worse than taking the boat out and bouncing around at 30 knots. Its going to come off either way.

My boat is rarely in the water for more than a week at a time, but the 'Bay is so shallow, it gets really warm and a nasty algae scrim line forms in 24 hours and can actually penetrate the gel coat, so I pressure wash it every time it goes back on the lift.

They've started cracking down on businesses for washing their company vehicles on their property without the proper containment and catch basins, filtering system or waste removal contract for disposal of the contaminated water. We used to put the guys to work during the slow times and they'd clean and detail them all. With the vans, minivans and pickups it's not a big deal, we just run them through the car wash. With the bigger trucks there aren't any local truck washes so it can be a couple weeks before we pass one again. Things can get pretty scroungy looking in a couple weeks!

Homeowners are probably on the radar screen next.

You sound like you have a crush or want to play, getting personal about my marital status and now this query. When you figure out which it is, let me know so I can budget my infractions accordingly.

I heard that--I have a friend/client that owns pressure washing trucks and contracts with Coca Cola, ect....to wash their fleets on premises. Two years ago, he had to start carrying around what appears to be an oil boom (I think it is stuffed with human hair), and reclaiming the water, then off to the disposal site. Talk about costs going up. Little overboard if you ask me, as he uses a very mild surficant detergent.
