i dont know any thing about the itouch but i can tell you Dont get a Zune(any of them) i have had nothing but problems(battery wont hold charge/resets itself while playing songs) oh and the aftermarket support is horrible my alpine radio has ipod plug and no possibility for a zune converter/extra plug/etc.

(ill trade you my zune for and ipod touch)

I feel kind stupid following this guy (sublakedesron) ....... but buy a Zune. Once you get the hang of it, it's painfully superior to the Ipod.

The remark about no possible converter for the Zune is completely off base. My Alpine, and every decent aftermarket radio, can/is outfitted with an adapter that fits at the headphone input jack. I enjoy the headphone input adapter because of the wide range of applications as opposed to the purely I pod adapter.

Betamax was so much better, too.

Who provides your cellphone? For $299, you can get the new iPhone, with 16GBs of space, and internet everywhere.

Sprint.

The 8GB iPod Touch is $284, which seems odd -- unless the phone plan for the iPhone is ridiculously expensive.

Someone loves bright shiny colors......

I'll admit that I endured an Ipod for 4 years (I should actually say 5 Ipods because thats the count after the ****** warranty replacements) but now that the 2nd gen Zune has appeared all troubles have been erased.

I'm still using my 1st Gen 5GB scroll wheel iPod. Replaced the battery over a year ago with a larger li-on aftermarket one and it get's nearly 20 hours at 50% volume.

The Zune suffers the same fate as Apple's operating system . . . less than 10% market penetration.

Funny, isn't that what Zune owners are?

If you're confused now, then don't look at the Creative Zen or the Nokia N series.

video conversion option

"It's very cool having widescreen video, wi-fi net access, picture manager, etc. but getting DVD's ripped and transferred onto it can be a PIA as there isn't just one pieces of software that can deal with copy protection and transfer to Apple's video format."

I found some software from a company called 99bytes. They have a DVD to Ipod or PSP converter for $20 that will get around most DRM. I load the DVD into my computer DVD drive, run the 99bytes software, it rips the movie. I choose the destination file (mp4) to be in the "Movies" folder for itunes. Then go into itunes and "add file to library". It probably converts 80-90% of the commercial DVD's out there. The files play great on my 5th gen ipod video. Each movie is about 700KB to 1.2gb.

I have heard but not tried using some shareware called "handbrake" to do the same thing.

Handbrake works for me. I have used it to rip several DVDs; so far so good.

FYI: Skype for the iPod Touch/iPhone was released today!

It's in the iTunes Store.

Now, when I am at a WiFi hotspot or at home, I have a sexier, slimmer iPhone without the AT&T costs.
