Didn't the first 200 or so have problems with the doors? Think they were made on prototype tooling instead of production tooling or something like that. Afraid the car just did not live up to the hype.

If you need a loan to buy a $5000 Delorean, then...

bah.. tons of people are... as we know.. screwed with loans currently, I wouldn't have been one of them

POS 08-13-2008 09:11 PM

Good man. I'm fine with loans, but I try to keep them to a minimum. There's actually a better argument for taking a loan on a $5000 Delorean than on a $25000 anything.

Indeed ... how's the economy been doing this year, by the way?;) We're so accustomed to spending money we haven't earned we don't even know it isn't normal.

That said, I'm not one to quash an aspiration like yours, which in some sense is an investment. You have an interest in Deloreans and want to purchase one as a collectors item and hobby, not because you want the neighbors to know you're on social par with them. Taking out a loan to purchase something that will likely appreciate is not irresponsible in my opinion, assuming you aren't already drowning in debt. You obviously know a lot about the cars and will make an intelligent purchase when you can. Keep saving and looking and hopefully another gem will turn up at a good price for you.

Yeah, but think about the poor bastard at the bank who has to tell the VP that he OK'd a loan on a Delorean, and can you imagine what a fit the VP would have if that loan went sour and they had to repo it? Try running that thing through the dealer auction and watch it fall flat on its face.

My take on it is this: I don't owe money on toys...if I can't pay cash, I just wait.
A neighbor of mine had one when the Deloreans were new, and it was a neat novelty piece, but he seemed to drive his 450SL more often than not. I was 16 years old, and thought that anything had to be cooler than my dad's Dodge Omni and my mom's Cutlass Supreme...

here ya go Joe, from 2004, 502 is just sticking out in the corner of the pic. The Legend Industries single turbo D is next to that missing its grille badge. I'm on stage with the hat ;)

Same here, but I've been pretty fortunate, and I try to put myself in the shoes of others. I like to earn my money before I spend it, and I'm lucky enough to be able to do that.:o

I have to change the title of this thread... ;)

Did you make it to the DCS event at Gettysburg in June? There were plenty of Deloreans and Bricklins. I have 2 Bricklins and my son recently purchased a Delorean.

TheDon 08-14-2008 03:20 PM
