Yes, they were. And rightfully so, IMHO.

Sadly, for me, the Mrs. doesn't share the same appreciation of vintage funeral coaches. Go figure! I might get a compromise with an ambulance, though.

My dad has a Cadillac. 1924, not exactly road worthy. but its pretty.
My mom and dad where restoring it when i was a kid. but sadly, they got devoiced and the car got put into storage.
here are some pictures I took a month ago when I went to visit my dad.

they rebuilt the engine. it has an all aluminum V8. its a very pretty engine. even though it makes like 40HP.

Actually only the crankcase is aluminum/bronze alloy as was common at the time, the right and left cylinder blocks are cast iron. The engine develops about 70-80bhp.

If he has no intention to complete it kindly PM me if he would consider parting with it as I love projects.

seems that the easier is becomes to build a car, the worse they are. there is something to be said for the quality control in a hand built product.

Dude in Shafter I think, down south of y'all, had a whole graveyard of them some years ago, might still be around. Limos, Hearses, Coupes, Sedans. 49-65 you name it. All in need of total restoration and he was smoking crack on the asking prices, though. Another feller in LA called Frank Corrente, again, crack smoker, but he's got some nice ones on a little lot. I checked them out one day a while back, he even had a 57 Eldo Brougham.

When my mom and dad were actively restoring the 24 they took all the steel body parts to a guy and had them chemically stripped. well the guy told my dad the hood was steel so in the drink it went... well it never came back, it was aluminum and the chemicals dissolved it. so the owner of the shop bought my dad a new one. well before the owner came through with a hood my dad located one in Sparks NV so we drove other there. the guy selling it was the owner of a classic car storage and restoration place. he had these large garages with 20 cars in each that were climate controlled. He had FRDs Limo in there. my dad called the shop owner to work out a deal on the hood, and the shop owner had located another hood. even with coming home empty handed seeing that place was awesome.

At least that's my rationalization.
As far as a retro People Carrier, the anyone can afford. my first car comes to mind. (here is another project shelved by my parents divorce)
