I don't have any kids to raise my BP. MY job & past diet & smoking history took care of elevating my BP quite well, thank you.
I now take 25 mg metroprolal & 20 mg Benicar daily. I've gone from 140's over 90's to 110-115 over 65-75, depending on multiple things.

If your BP was significantly elevated for whatever reason, go on the meds. Why risk the possible end effect when meds can do such a huge reduction of the risk factor.

FWIW, I also happily take 10 mg Crestor daily. That's a whole other subject matter, but recent news of a new study show Crestor to provide substantial benefits even in low risk patients.

Aklim is right, I didn't pay attention to my BP, and about 2 years ago I had a stroke, messing with your BP can KILL you. It took me about 6 months to recover. And the damage is done. I can't remember anything and I can't seem to spell words correctly and get very confused sometimes. TAKE CARE OF YOU HEALTH.

Why the H Do I Need Blood Pressure Medicine?

So you can see your son graduate, and, as mentioned above, do not become another stroke statistic.

I was listening to a mother tell a story on the radio.
She was having a terrible time getting her son ready for school on time. Finally she got so fed up she told him to be ready for school at a certain time or she would leave without him.
Sure enough he wasn't ready in time so she left. She bought her youngest child to kindergarten and came back home.
The son had to take the bus to school and he got there late. A little while after he got to school an announcement came over the loudspeaker for him to report to the principles office. The principle asked him why he can't make it to school on time & asked if he would be on time tomorrow? Of course he said yes.
The next day he was ready and waiting on time and had been since.

What he didn't know was when his mother dropped the child off at kindergarten she stopped off and had a little chat with her son's principle!

He was never late again.

Sometimes it might not be the kids at all. It might just be genetic. I know my wife is extra careful with cardiac issues if you are black. Why? Because black people have some sort of disposition to certain heart issues. Not sure exactly what but that is what I understand.

BP and stroke

Speaking as a street medic, I will tell you that by far the biggest cause of stroke is sustained high blood pressure. Many of the people I see drooling into thier oatmeal in the nursing homes are a result of untreated hypertension. There is a type of severe stroke usually caused by a burst brain aneurism (hemorragic stroke) that is difficult to predict and prevent but they are few. Those that experience such a stroke are often dead before they hit the ground. Controlling blood pressure will minimize that risk also.

TAKE YOUR MEDICINE AND GROW OLD.

Yep......and I didn't see an exercise program listed in the OP. I hope that was an oversight. One of the easiest and cheapest ways to lower BP.

Me? Took Lopressor in days gone by. Now on Accupril.(gen. Quinapril), along with Coreg and Crestor.
Tuesday I go for another cardiac catheter (last one in 2002). It's time for another look-see.

Don't worry about losing your good health. It happens naturally.

Yeah - working on that.

However with the 2 hip replacements in a little over 2 years, knee arthritis & spinal stenosis which we're trying to fix with steroid shots and real large doses of motrin, I'm holding off on the exercise program while we try to get the pain levels down.

Following the comments here, I have tried in the last few days to pick my battles with my kid....

That and the Lisinopril seem to be helping.

(Especially when the kid's at school.)

P.S. Caught him sneaking the IPOD to school today - didn't react. Just gave him an opportunity to "find" it on his own.

Amazingly, it showed up on my desk.

It's way down the road, but your kids will mature. That's the good news. Hang tough!

Any particular reason? Wife and I opted out because we saw what kids of today were like, the odds of ending up with one of the undesirables, interference from mindfawks, etc, etc and we didn't like kids that much to make the sacrifices worthwhile.

Raising children is very difficult, but high blood pressure will kill you. Don’t ignore it. If you want to live, take the steps.

45 day follow-up.

My MD just doubled the Lisinopril to 20mg as my systolic is still hanging mid-130's.

Diastolic is down to mid-80's - sweet.

Gone from 0 pills in the AM a year ago to 6 now, but hey, whatever keeps the heart pumping and the legs working.

High blood pressure can lead to erectile dysfunction too. VERY VERY IMPORTANT to take note of or you could become IMPOTENT.
