First, that's truly frighting picture. Second, those are all EXIT holes on this side. And last, but not least, some people live with this EVERY DAY.

Grim.

Yeah, that has to be BS. I've driven in a Presidential motorcade and we were hauling ass on a closed I 26 near Charleston, SC at up to 105 mph.

I did. I drove Brent Scowcroft and Rep. Floyd Spence to the National Convention of Governors from Chas. Airforce Base to the Omni Hotel in downtown. Then drove Scowcroft to Kiawah Island to play golf with Dan Quayle on the Ocean Course later that day It was an awesome experience.

Most of the doos and don'ts I recall were about staying the hell back from Air Force One. They had a Suburban with a gun turret mounted on top, and said they would blow you away if you came within the wingspan. There wasn't much to worry about people, until we got very close to the hotel, because they took us a different route than was published in the paper. We were all driving PI Crown Vics, except to Kiawah, I drove a Town Car limo.

The secret service forgot to do some checking prior to our leaving Kiawah that they had done for the previous departures

Something to keep in mind here.
A little Presidential airplane trivia.

It’s only called “Air Force One” when the President is on it.

If the President gets off the plane and gets into a Cessna 172 and is airborne, then that 172 becomes “Air Force One”.

Yep, same with my tour...when we got to the airport in IA., the WH Press Rep in our vehicle mentioned to me to stay in line, everyone was to leave the door handles alone and no one was to step out of the vehicle for ANY REASON while AF1 was on the ground...we were about 200 yards (or more) back from the rear of the plane...the President and company boarded, and we sat 'til the wheels cleared the ground, then we sat some more...only when the SS gave us the thumb, the drivers could put the vehicle in gear and FOLLOW the vehicle, ahead of it, off the tarmac.

All the while...SS agents, on foot and on the roof of the terminal, kept an eye (and cross-hairs) on us at all times...in the f***ing rain...them's some hard-core guys there!!!

BTW, the fastest we ran was around 75mph...45 in school zones, but no faster than 75 on the open road...rain and all...

I wonder how much boost it would get from a propane injection.

I was in a 182 flying Hurricane Rita observations when we heard Deridder receive a call from Marine 1. We knew there was a a controlled airspace corridor at a certain time (lots of controlled airspace in a hurricane impact area) and we knew that the President was going to tour the area. So we planned it to be close, but not too close. It's kind of silly looked at from a cynical adult perspective, but we thought it was really cool.

I agree. It can be pretty cool how they conduct all the operations of getting the President from point A to point B.

The only time I don’t find it interesting is when I’m flying into point B, and they decide to keep the region shut down an hour later than previously announced.

There’s nothing quite like being in confined quarters with an extreme left entertainer and their entourage, and having to explain why they’re going to be a bit late to their destination.

I’ll take the kids continuous: “Are we there yet?!” over that one any time.
