I used to manage a condo complex and one of the condo owners had a flying car from the 1960's. It was shaped kind of like a VW bug. Wings folded back. It worked and he would take it around to shows. He also had a Wankel engined motorcycle (Suzuki?).

I think her next purchase is going to just be a plane.

I remember a car that turned into a boat from the sixties, but didn't know anyone had actually made a working car/airplane back then. A car that turns into a helicopter sounds like a more useful invention. Around here, you'd be hard-pressed to find enough clear roadway to get airborne in a plane!

Cool!

There are a few very cool personal VTOL crafts in development.

Here's one:

I seem to recall a car/plane from the '70's that was based on the Ford Pinto.

Much less chance of it being rear-ended in the fuel tank as a plane though.

Just watched "James May's Big Ideas"

He got to fly the only working version of the flying car.

He also paid a visit to Professor Moller of UC Davis.

My Dad told me about being in class with Dr. Moller and said the guys brilliant... his car my not actually fly, but he did invent the supertrap muffler.
