Iranian justice

Kind of like this. This is what so many people wish, to have their perpetrators suffer in the same way they did. On the other hand there's the concept of forgiving and moving on in life.

Did you notice that she gets to blind him in one eye to pay for both of hers? That wasn't out of compassion, but rather because one male eye is worth two female eyes.

Yes. On the other hand he "only" gets blind on both eyes, while her face is completely mutilated for all future.

Sounds like he's getting it in both...either way, that's a messed up, sad situation.

But she herself unashamedly wants revenge: “He made fun of me in front of the court. Now he is whimpering for mercy, asking me to leave him at least one eye.

Hey we have capital punishment here. But we have to do it humanely.

I wonder what's worse. Taking a life in a "humane" manner or blinding a person in an inhumane manner. After, a blind person can still have a great life. I know what feels worse, I wonder if it really is.

OK a few points... I am putting my asbestos suit on

1) Iranian Justice WORKS for women. More than you can say for Saudi, Afghani, Pakistani, or most African countries. The woman's family kill her in the back yard because she brought dishonor on the family and the police and courts did their jobs.

2) The perpetrator was arrested and found guilty in court. The sentence was imposed by a judge -- it was not the woman's family going all vigilante in the streets

3) The convicted man is going to be drugged and have acid dropped in his eyes - a far cry from having them taken out with a red hot poker while he is awake and a far more humane thing than what he did to the girl. By pouring acid on her he mutilated her face, blinded her and could have killed her.

4) Both parties will now have to get on with their lives. As it was mentioned in previous posts, you can live a great and fulfilled life blind. Both of them could be dead right now.

Maybe it is not the sentence we would impose here, but as people have said over and over again - they are a different country and have a different culture...

Why not? If she wishes to forgive him she could. This way, she has the option of forgiving him or making him suffer the same fate. Maybe it might give someone pause before they do the same act.

Nice concept but there is nothing like watching someone who hurt you suffer. Better than sex in some cases.

I guess I believe in forgiveness after I die or hell freezes over, whichever comes first.

A little soft. Same thing should happen to him. No drugs.

If she's blind in both eyes and is the one who is going to be spilling the acid, I think there's a safe chance that the acid is going everywhere. I have enough trouble getting eyedrops into my own eye when I'm doing it intentionally.

I hope she gives him what he's got coming. Maybe a few more judgments like this will help protect women in these countries.

How many drops does it take to blind an eye? She could use the good measure to go to town on him... poor blind lady just slipped.

I think this type of judgment surprises Americans, but I wonder how well it applies across the culture, and the courts.
