4.3L V6, 2wd, auto.

I'd love another Mercedes, lets hope the economy gets a bit better.

My uncles friend picked 3 up at the auction, I paid $7k, retail is $9k-$10k around here. I just did an autotrader search on that truck this morning and within 100 miles everything similer is $3k more.

One thing I don't like is that it has a cap, luckly it was clamped on so I'm going to take it right off and sell it. If anyone wants a cap PM me. I need a tailgate too since they took that off for the cap.

That's great. Somehow I didn't figure you for a just-go-to-a-dealer kind of guy. For that matter, that probably fits for most of us here. Saw that dealership sign, and the great deal (which it certainly seems to be), and the warning flags went up.

'Bout $300 should buy you a used white tailgate. M&J in Colchester are showing one, so is Dutchers in Morrisville NY

I'm going to put nerf bars and a bug shield on it like this one, might go stainless on both for some contrast.
I was just teasing, Chris. I've never had a vehicle that I hadn't given at least one character mark.

So it's a contractor cap with the two vertical barn doors? Steel or FG?

You should be happy with it. Is it a 6 or 8? I bought one of my salesmen a new '04 Silverado 1500 Extended Cab 2WD with the 5.3L that averaged 17mpg before a tree fell on it and folded it in half. The '07 that replaced it averages almost 18 with the 5.3L.

Just be sure that the tailgate has a working keyed lock. Some of those $300 tailgates are not offered for sale by the original owner...

Oh, BTW, I have a word for you: Rims.

Caps or Excursions?

We cap all of our pickups with high-rise caps with opening side windows. Not just for weather but security, too. Stuff walks off a lot less often.

Are you trying to say that they might be acquired by less-than-ethical means?

These are tailgates from licensed used parts companies, not individuals, so none of them are offered by the original owner. Likelihood is that you are not going to get the key. If he is ditching the cap, locking the tailgate will only stop the laziest of thieves

I'm going to get my friends buffer and turn it from chaulk red to somewhat shiney red this week, than soak it in 10 gallons of Armor All like the dealers do. I already have the for sale sign sitting on my desk.

I got it for such a good price I couldn't resist. I wanted a new Ford, but I like keeping the $10k difference in the bank even more.
Congratulations Hat!

After reading your comments on your VW, I don't blame you.

I don't really get the chaulk red/Armour All deal, since the Chevy truck is white, though.

I'm with you, I like the F150 a lot too. Just don't need one.

How do I look them up at CT junkyards? I wasn't having any luck on google, maybe I was going to the wrong sites?

Cap is steel with two vertical doors, and it has a tool box on the drivers side, with a built in ladder rack.

Need one I'll make you a killer deal!

The site I use is -
www.car-part.com

Don't know if you're supposed to be a repair facility or not, but it shouldn't matter.

My wife's dad had that same truck....pretty reliable, but bouncy as heck....and felt flimsy. Its no MB!

The 4.3 motor barely gets 15mpg!

Then again, his new Dodge 5.9 gasser gets about 9-10mpg and keeps breaking....

Yeah, I would leave the cap on if it is lockable. When I had my Dodge E350 I loved the cap. Saved a lot of things from getting wet and/or walking away

Also in NJ at least the insurance on an uncapped pick-em-up was HIGHER than one with a cap. It was something about needing commercial plates on an uncapped truck...
