Where is it illegal to bust your kid's butt for acting out? I wish I had lived there as a kid...now I don't. I'd have turned into a spoiled brat, much like this kid has

sounds like a case for fairly exterme tough love to straighten him out. his parents did noone any favors by letting him get away with so much. I would also have a psych exam for the kid, he seems a bit over the norm. if he keeps going this way, he'll end up in the justice system way before he is 18 and then it's too late to help..

The parents are idiots (the mother specifically) and are the real problem. Teaching the nauseating brat that it'll get just what it wants if it just behaves badly enough. This kind of **** was never tolerated in times gone buy. The kid would have been belted till it behaved. Now of course you have a bunch of shrinks talking crap and making it illegal to discipline the brat. What a load of crud. If it insults guests it needs to get slapped in the face, hard. If it does it again, harder. If it throws tantrums belted till it cant sit for a week. If it bully's other kids hurt it badly enough that it'll never do it again. And don't talk **** to me about child abuse. That's called discipline and that's what it needs.

this nation has gotten soft, where are the days of locking kids in the basement for a day or tow, happened to my mom.

it is not illegal to hit your child, to a certain extent. theres a difference between disciplining and beating. and beating, not disciplining.

in my opinion, first the parents need a smack in the face, then the kid does.

and also this kid does not have mental problems, he has been taught something and these are the consequences of the lack of consequences.

This is all crap, they say you can't spank your kid and society wonders why there is so many problems with our youth. the LORD said spare the rod spoil the child. Let that little punk live with me for a week and he will be a respect resposible citizen when he grows up. I can't stand these new parents who think that they can be friends with their children. They NEED to parents to their children, not their friends. I have three children they are now 26, 23, 23. And when they were younger they would say that their friends were allowed to do what they want. And today ALL of those friends of my children are in jail or rehab or DEAD. PARENTS DO YOU JOB.

I read nothing in the OP's posts that suggests to me that ADHD is the problem.

The fact a school psychologist was involved and a full time helper assigned suggests the school district recognizes there is a problem and has attempted to mitigate impulse and anger control problems. I'm certain that before doing that the district tried other methods to control his outbursts that failed. I doubt the problems can be beaten out of the child; if it were my child, I'd look to his pediatrician and then other medical professionals for help in understanding what the issues are and then developing a plan to deal with them effectively.

The issue is lack of dicipline. Why go to a pediatrician? They can only prescribe medications...and that's another can of worms you don't want to open up!

I disagree, and before you call me a useless drunk listen to what I have to say. Children really seek order in their lives and when they don't get it they act out and try to take charge. and in some cases with some of they pansy parents maybe they should. Anyways my aunt who raised me also raised 22 troubled foster children. She put order into their lives and when they got out of hand she and my Uncle corrected them. And when they were grown and able to go back to their real parent's they chose to stay with my Aunt and Uncle. And when my Aunt died last year at the age of 85, several of her foster children who haven't seen her in 25 years attended her funeral. It's all about structure with kids.THEY NEED IT, THEY DESERVE IT. That is all that I am going to say on the subject, except this. when my kids steped out of line they were disciplined. and this is how they turned out. Our oldest son Robert fought in the Afghan war and saved two adults and one baby from dieng. He received two Purple Hearts and several medals including something called a medal of Valor and Honor. My youngest son has been working at a factory for 5 years and is being promoted while people twice his age are being fired, he knows the value of a hard days work. And my daughter is the kindest person you will ever meet, she will do without to help others out.

I think you mean the Bronze Star with V device for Valor.

Without knowing more of the circumstances I can't know if you mean the Silver Star, which requires some other things.

Believe me folks, his son is a real hero, they don't give ANYTHING with a "V" device unless you are a real hero. Often they are given in hospital or posthumously.

I am sure you are deservedly proud of your son and have told him so.

I have told him how Brave he is, and he knows it. But I think we need to get back on topic.

Thanks for the ideas and suggestions so far.

One time he was running around my house with an open cup of orange soda and I told him to drink it in the kitchen. He acted up and I really raised my voice and gave him a stern talking to. After that his mom didn't talk to me for a few days. Same thing happened to my wife, she literally pulled the car over and refused to drive to the amusement park until he apologized to everyone in the car for his bad behavior, which included spitting, biting, and swearing. He balked and finally gave in after 15 minutes. Same cold shoulder treatment after that. They both need help.
