How heavy is this thing?
I'm still holding out for a diesel hybrid.

As others have mentioned, I'm sure the mileage would be reduced in order to meet U.S. standards. Even then, it'd be outstanding mileage. Which wouldn't sell, because it doesn't have the right image. It isn't fast enough to sell to most of our masses (you need at least 300 hp to take your kids to soccer practice; 350 if you're really important), and it doesn't have the pat-yourself-on-the-back buzz that a hybrid does. All it is is a simple diesel engine in a small, no-frills car with enough power to get you there and enough room for you and a few belongings. There aren't very many people in this country who appreciate that.

That's a 55hp car. And apparently only one sold in Maryland.
Another terrible attempt to rebrand GM using the Geo brand made by...oh yeah...Suzuki. |

Here's a decent review of the car, and it mentions £11,000 as the price in UK. That would equal to about $16,760.
http://cars.uk.msn.com/Reviews/article.aspx?cp-documentid=11616916 I don't know about US new car prices but it feels like a competitive price for a small car in Europe

With gas being cheap again, econo-diesels like this one will have a hard time making it to the US, where people still generally prefer size and power over economy. Hope for $5 gas, and we might see more cars like this here.
EDIT: On second thought, if the EPA starts regulating CO2 emissions, cars like this will have a better chance of making it here even if gas isn't very expensive.

We'll see about that. Oil prices are on the run again, hitting $60/bbl yesterday. Up 80% since recession low of $33/bbl
