This is a little like arguing whether a philips or straight screwdriver is better. Just pick whatever tool you are most comfortable with, and the tool that gives you the capabilities you need for the jobs you need to do.

I only use macs because they have the interface/OS/hardware I prefer and I don't want the hassle of switching between platforms. If I needed some software that ran on windows only, I would either load windows on a mac or buy a windows box. If I cared about gaming (which I don't, because I'm over 12) I would buy a windows based gaming box. If I wanted to play computer geek, I would run linux.

At this point, I don't consider computers a hobby; I just want something that runs out of the box with the minimum hassle and helps me get my work done. I don't get paid to play with a computer, I get paid for producing a work product. If I want to play, I'll use my kids' X-Box, or their Wii, or their playstation, or their DS, or... (whatever else they are using this week).

No need to pick on the gamers here (albeit, probably a very small minority)...

Sorry, maybe I have a bad attitude because of the many $100s, or $1000s, (of my money) that my kids have spent on games and various game systems over the years.

Debating this is likely to produce arguments that have a higher chance of a decreasing threshold for a minimum baseline amount of substantive evidence within posted opinions than the usual political discourse found herein.

In other words, I feel it is like debating the merits of a Ravigneaux planetary gear set transmission with a toddler who is busy attaching a hockey card to the spoked wheel of his tricycle to make it sound like a motorcycle.

As to which of the above fictitious characters is more likely to use a Mac, I shall not give opinion.

I remember a computer giveaway at a television show recording I attended as a kid. I wanted that computer more than my next Boy Scout badge...it was a Commodore 64. Didn't win it. Was crushed and filled with seething envy. Probably still haven't resolved it.

Nice!

I remember getting my own Apple IIe with DUAL 5.25" disk drives. I could play Aztec without flipping the discs.

I can build a nice PC in less than 30 minutes + another 35-40 to install the OS....probably less time than it takes to get to a store, buy, bring home, and set up a MAC. Considering that I spent about $1500 less than an equivalent MAC. That means I paid myself over $1000 an hour.

PC's are just as reliable, mine is on 24/7 and I've not had a hardware failure in several years. I upgrade the primary components every 3-4 years at minimal expense (about $230 last March for my current PC). And I can run Linux, etc....

My brother does a ton of AV, Video, Animation, and audio work (advanced stuff/college level) and he is 100% PC, he would not even consider a MAC....WAY too expensive, especially with animation, when you need the fastest system possible, his is ultra fast, an equivalent MAC would be about $3000+....his was under $700.

MAC's are for people with more $$ than ˘˘

Clearly, that's no different than the kid down the street that can turn wrenches and "build" a high performance car from a Honda Civic and spend evenings and weekends keeping it tuned and running well;

Meanwhile, I'm down the street, driving my C-Class to and from work.

Different strokes for different folks.
