I met a car collector on the plane

I met a car collector on the plane back from Florida last Sunday. When he told me he collected cars, I assumed he had 3-4 old cars. It turns out that he actually has about 65 cars and maintains a 15,000 sq ft "garage" which is climate-controlled, has lab grade air filtration, white epoxy coated floors, and employs two full time mechanics to take care of this collection.

I was astounded. I've never met anyone like him before. I'm looking forward to a tour of his "garage." By the end of the conversation he was asking me to come and see him about his accounts receiveable. I told him I'm in the collections business. I may start taking more trips if this works out as well as it seems to be!

Let me add that this guy looked like an ordinary Joe and was not the least bit haughty or snobbish. It's a real treat to meet someone like this.

What was that guy's name? Leno?

I can't top that, Tom, but I was in the same restaurant as a Medal of Honor recipient on Saturday night. A group I belong to had a Christmas party at a restaurant at the same time a group of Airborne veterans were having a holiday GTG. One of their guests was a Vietnam Vet MOH recipient, David Dolby.

When they announced his presence, I was on the balcony level bar and looked down to see if I could identify him by his medal. All I could see was this scraggly old guy with long hair and a longer beard, wearing what looked at a distance to be a well worn blue riddon around his neck.
This is him today. http://www.pottsmerc.com/articles/2009/11/15/news/doc4b0036ac437fc840024561.txt

I personally think you've trumped the car guy.

Anybody (with tons of cash) can buy many cars.

A MOH is something else again.

I would be fascinated talking with the car guy.

I would be deeply touched and honored to be in the presence of the MOH guy.

Shoot, Paul, you didn't tell me I had to keep it a secret!

I liked this guy largely because he started his company from scratch. Now he does $35,000,000 in business, annually.

I'd rather sit beside a car guy in a plane than one of those Airborne Rangers. The look they get in their eyes when they see the "Emergency Exit" gives me the willies!

I would think that someone with that much of a collection can't have too much of a receivables problem.

Glad to see they're letting you fly again after "the incident".

I read the account of his heroism. What a heartwarming story.

I wonder if fellows who do such things would do it again and again if the situation came up or are they just sort of caught up in it and do it without really thinking about it?

Awesome, I would love to chit chat with this guy and see his collection.

Most TRULEY rich people are like this...unassuming, 'ordinary'. The flashy ones are the ones that are usually maxed out and have a low net worth because they spend everything they have on looking like they are rich.
