I can understand your desire to support local businesses but $130.00 for a day pack made from canvas??? Call me cheap if you want but I can buy Mont Blanc leather one from E-Bay for the same money and for sure it will last me life time.

Waxed canvas is some of the most durable expedition material out there. People take them on bike and canoe trips all over the world. Canvas is also better for snow tents with wood burning stoves. If you want a leather bag by all means go get one, but don't knock canvas until you've tried it.

Yup. I have a Snugpak bergen for "serious" hiking and whatnot, and a great old Swiss military "salt & pepper" canvas and leather pack for less strenuous pursuits.

I just received my Wool Blanket Shirt from Empire Canvas Works, and am wearing it today. A bit on the warm side for here in the office, but this shirt is fantastic. Even better, it was a closeout that Kevin dug up for me. Can't say enough about the way he does business; thanks again for posting that link & turning me on to their wares!

I wasn't sure what size to order, so Kevin sent this shirt along for me to try on, then trusted me to make payment (or return it if necessary). I sent payment along promptly and thanked him for his trusting nature, and he told me that in his 10 or 15 years of doing business this way, he has only once lost a package to an unscrupulous buyer. That's pretty cool!
