Yeah it really does suck. He was smart to, was going to be an anesthesiologist.

This has really been a roller coaster year for me. My business is doing really well, and next year is shaping up to be an even better year. But now my friend is dieing and I just found out my mom has breast cancer. WTF.

My childhood best friend, I'm talking like we were in the sand box together friend, was killed by a drunk driver. It was one of the hardest things, if not the hardest thing, I've ever gone thru, so my deep condolences to you. I had the exact opposite reaction - I quit drinking the day of the funeral and haven't had a drop since, 21 years later. Another friend of mine was killed in the same accident - the mother of two small children, and in between these gut wrenching funerals for these two people killed by a drunk, many of my friends popped the cork before heading to the next funeral. The insanity of it all ended my desire to ever open a bottle containing alcohol ever again.

My condolences to all who have sick and suffering friends and relatives this Christmas.

Pain and suffering, unfortunately, do not stop for our esoteric human holidays.

Kinda makes us value the companions that we currently get to share time with even more, from my standpoint.

I'm unhappy about my BFF Max, missing my grandparents and a few others...but my grammy is still around to make me cookies and my mom and dad are in great health...and I am thankful.

I am truly sorry to hear this news, both about your friend and your mother.

As far as your friend is concerned, I can understand the desire to have a drink and ease some of the pain you're in. I'm going to suggest you hold off. You only have a little time left with him. Enjoy your time with him without the hangover. Let him enjoy the last of your time together the way you'd want him to remember you.

Christ, wouldn't it be great if we could all meet in a cozy lounge and get pifflicated while comforting eachother, cathartically relating our experience and discussing the mutability of human affairs.

Wait...we have this forum

Life has a habit of kicking you when you least expect it...........(that would be always).

Your only choice is to shoulder onward and do the best you can with it. Time does heal all wounds.............usually.

I'm saying a prayer for your Mom..............
