ipod nano music

I opened an itunes account and I can't believe how expensive the music is.
How do you download individual songs?

Anyway does anyone know where to get free music?

And how can I get my mp3 files on my computer onto the ipod?

Thanks!

Danny

to get mps files that are already on your comp into itunes just open the folder and drag and drop them into the itunes library. it shouldnt copy them but accept them into the library so they can be loaded onto the ipod.

rip cd's to itunes as well. Free music.. you're on your own on that one.

It helps if you just bite the bullet and realize that you're going to pay a dollar a song for infinately portable, high quality music. I gave in a few years ago (hard to believe it's been that long) and I've amassed a pretty good collection. My music is mostly on Vinyl (I have enough LP's to break my oak book shelf in multiple locations) but I have amassed a pretty big number of songs over the last few years.

If you can't read it it says 4 days, 1300 or so songs. The trick is to buy bricks of stuff you know you want to listen to. Instead of searching for specific albums, try to use the Itunes Essentials in the lower left corner as they're groups of about 75 songs that you can pick from individually. An Itunes Essentials "pack" consists of "the basics" (songs everyone knows) "The Next Steps" (songs most people know) and "Deep Cuts" (songs you probably havent heard.) You can pick and choose from there. The "packs" are unified around a central theme like "Eric Clapton" or "The Sixties."

iTunes is evil...run now ... really, can't stand that fuc*ing program. As for "high quality", I don't consider anything in a compressed MP3 or AAC format to be "high quality" 24 bit WAV files, now you might have something.

My current option to maintain my digital library is Media Monkey, does a great job of keeping tabs on your music, especially large collections (currently over 80000 songs, many of which are complete sets of live music, occupies almost 2TB).

Don't buy individual songs, buy the disc, it really isn't that expensive, especially if you buy preowned.

Dude, remember, I listen to vinyl and cherish the warm full sound it produces. My stuff on iTunes is recorded via a Turntable that records the music on my PC, organizes it, etc. I'd say 90% of my music is from my vinyl collection, while the remaining 10% I purchased off iTunes because I havent been able to find the album (actual piece of pressed vinyl, NOT a CD) and I just wimped out and bought the song online. Over six years of use I havent had a single problem occur with my itunes account. I've gone through different iPods, and several computers, but I've kept the same account. It's not a bad program.

This picture consists of about 1/4 of my record collection.

Here's my Amp/Tuner stack and one of my turntables. It's a linear Sansui from about '86.

I feel for you man. Did you try the freezer thing?

I used Itunes to rip 4 cd's last night. That went well but tok forever.
I'll try to move the mp3's over tonight.

What format/s of music does the Ipod work with? Will it play a wav file?

Danny

No.

Really, use Media Monkey. Makes iTunes look like the piece of **** that it is. It will convert your WAV files on the fly, as it sends them to your iPod, without altering the original file. Try and get iTunes to do that. Just try and treat your iPod like any other portable flash drive with iTunes, it's all or nothing. Sync the entire device or do nothing. Worthless proprietary bull****. I appreciate being able to just add a few more songs to my iPod, without having to sync 30 or 80 gigs.

As for record albums, I own around 2000 of them, and I find them to be the finest method of replaying music known to man.

If all else fails, and you use youtube a lot to look up songs, you can get a song directly from any youtube video by using http://www.catchyoutube.com

You just put in the link and click on what you want. I suppose the "audio only -mp3 option would be what you want. We'll see if it works though. You tell me. I have an mp3 player that is not an ipod, so I don't have to deal with iTunes.

Good luck! Happy music hunting!
