I don't think that criticism works. The issue is not over moral standards vs. no moral standards. The issue is over what the moral standards concern. Republicans seem to think that moral standards largely concern sex and family and Democrats think moral standards apply to other things like the environment and social justice.
So Gore's huge house is an example of Democratic hypocrisy, but no one thinks James Watt's huge house(if he has one) would be an example of hypocrisy.
