Chess rocks....
My two younger sons play chess in their elementary school's chess program. There are competitions quite often, and the last tourny of the year is called Super State, and it's a invitational. Only the higher ranked players/ teams. My son Patrick placed 6th in his division out of close to 50 kids (he placed 12th in the state finals narrowly missing a top five placing). His team- he's the captain- (a captain already at age 6, lol) took home the K1 team first place trophy- they nearly knocked the #2 team off the podium with the celebration. Of course I'm proud of all three of my sons, but I had to share this moment with my online friends here at PP.

Can't do it any younger....
Patrick played my aunt a few months back when she and my Dad's brother visited my folks. Before they played she took me aside and asked how my boys took losing. I told her they don't like to lose, but they don't throw tantrums or cry if that was what she was getting at. She then told me her brother was very good at chess and she's played quite a bit and was not in the habit of going easy on anyone. I told her not to take it easy... Patrick beat her in four moves. ![]() Then Paul beat her, and then Luis beat her. It's now a historic family moment she'll never live down. |

Being able to play chess well is a gift, I think. I don't have the patience for it.

Chess does rock, and congrats for teaching your kids so early.
I played competitively in HS, where my friend and I were pertty evenly matched as #1 and #2. Depending on how good the other teams #1 was, we would trade off playing as top ranked. Being better at playing to stalemate, I used to draw top spot if the other side had a wunderkind... Played for awhile in college too... never will forget the spanking I got at the hands of a math professor... He smoked me three games fast, then spent the rest of the alotted time teaching me how he did it. Great guy, excellent teacher

Nah, it probably translates to a real life rating of maybe 1900? I kinda choke when I play OTB.
Few years ago I posted some pics of the K-5 team I used to coach. We had a few pretty high ranked players. It was a pleasure coaching them.

First match of the year, smaller one. TD was short of his usual asst, but some of us pitched in and it came off fine. My son Paul was successful in his defense of the K-3 title and Patrick moved up from K-1 and placed 5th. The school program placed first in two of the three divisions.

That is AWESOME! Give congrats to your son(or should I say sons?) from me(but of course, that's a strange thing to do. They'll be like "who??")! They all do so very well! I'm proud myself. I'd love to see them play and beat someone one day. I wish you video taped him beating your aunt in 4 moves.
I know how to PLAY chess...but I suck at it. But that's because I don't get much practice at it, and the only person I ever really played with was my dad...and he's way better than me...so...it's always like "Ugh...what's the point, you'll just beat me again." I mean, it's good to learn...but I'd feel better playing against someone at more my level. Which I did. I played with my best friend. We were a pretty even match. So I'll gladly play against her anytime. My boyfriend, on the other hand. Ugh. He's good. I suck so badly compared to him that he pretty much let me kill his queen right at the beginning to make it at least a little bit more fair (because I wouldn't let him play without a queen right at the beginning) Ah! But my uncle is good at it too. He and my boyfriend played against one another. It was a stalemate. But apparently my boyfriend would have won if he didn't miss one sneaky move. I know I'll never take the time to actually get as good as either of them, and probably not even as good as your sons! But I will admit, it is an awesome game. Really fun. I'm such a nerd. Haha. I want that Harry Potter collectors edition chess set! Hahhaa. I'd always lose on it though >.< But it's still awesome! You've taught your kids well! Thank you for sharing with us! I hope your other sons win big trophies like that one day too! They all deserve it, from what you've told us.
