Same Script, Different Movie

the plan:

1. initiate Cash for Clunkers program. get those nasty polluting PAID FOR cars off the street.

2. attack the lead dog (Toyota), thereby creating consumer concern about foreign car safety.

3. months later, announce that you are the WINNER.

Fords been leading the field amongst the domestic cars ever since the whole auto crisis thing hit Detroit. Its no shocker that they took the lead with the Taurus. Back in the 90s the Taurus was on top of its game unlit the Camrey took that spot. I haven't really seen anything shocking come out of Toyota in a long time. they have been coasting on their reputation ever since the 90s. mean while Detroit, not just Ford has been working hard to bring back their reputation... ok, maybe not building the right cars, and causing them selfs all kinds of problems, but I think they have been getting some if the quality back... I wouldn't call the Chrysler LX platform junk, (so what if its Mercedes table scraps... its still well built... for an American car) I'm no GM fan so I could care less about them. But I have to say I'm shocked by Ford, they truly seem to be building a good car again. I would say their turn around has been so successful and their cars such a change of pace from what they were making just a few years ago that I think they could have surpassed Toyota without the bad press. I haven't been surprised by a Toyota since the Matrix came out (I was attracted to the idea of a 4x4 wagon to compete with Subaru) but even those cars are just bland.

IDK suppose what I'm saying is, Good for Ford.

I stopped at a Ford dealership to pick up a part for the Mustang and decided to peruse the models in the showroom. Gotta admit, I'm impressed with their offerings! They seem to be the only domestic brand that "gets it".

Ford suffered from bad timing and over reliance on the Explorer. Given the development cycle for new chassis, they were only a couple years off.

Ford's done a great job. Perhaps Husky should put on his tin foil hat and go down to their show room. IIRC, it was Toyota was doing a pretty good job of getting it's assed sued off all by themselves.

the post was not intended as an attack on Ford. I've just always found it interesting that there appears to be the same movie script in many successes.

1. create a crisis.
2. supply the solution.

everything from Diamonds, cars, gasoline and most recently, the gun industry has benefited from the creation of an artificial 'crisis'. for example, the fear of 'Obama is gonna take our guns' has sold a LOT of guns since he took office. I know of one gun factory that has been running three shifts 24/7 ever since he took office.

it appears that SOMEONE somewhere may be pulling a few strings in order to move some product OUT THE DOOR and into our ever willing hands.

I'm not crazy about Fords, although I do own and old F150 hay truck that refuses to die even though it's interior is turning to dust and little plastic bits, the body rattles and hasn't an inch of straight sheet metal on it, but that 351 Cleveland and bombproof automatic just keep soldiering on.
I am however crazy about the big chunk of Ford shares I bought for 2 bucks a pop at the bottom of the market.
