Moving to Montana soon.....gonna see a dental floss tycoon....

We are leaving today to meander out to Montana in the Dodge pulling the travel trailer. Once there, just west of Bozeman we will spend a few days with my first cousin and his Mrs. then meander back.

I plan to take the northern route out and southern route back. We will be checking out historic and tourist sites and antique stores, probably.

I am open to suggestions.

We'll be gone about two weeks.

Stop by Korntucky and visit a fellow benz owner who happens to have an antique store.

a place to check out

This place is just South of Bozeman. I was in Bozeman for a week and found it. The restaurant serves bison, elk and some other local foods. I think it is right along the river where they filmed "River Runs Through It" - the movie with all the pretty fly fishing scenes.

Have a great trip, it is beautiful out there.

Today we are in Big Timber. By evening we will be at my Cousin's place. We took the Northern route through North Dakota. Fargo included. We enjoyed all the local accents. There is not a lot to see in N D though.

We camped second night out in Minnesota at LeClaire in a campground on the Mississippi. It is nearly small enough there to throw a rock across.

Night before last we were in Glengrile (SP)...we camped at a state park just south of there in the badlands. Interesting place where it does not get a lot of rain, apparently. There was no electicity...even security lights so I could see a lot of stars! I drove the truck and trailer up a winding road until I started slipping my drive wheels and backed the rig into a side lane and went back down.

Last night in Billings at the first KOA in the world. Saw a Fuso camper there and stopped to ask if he was Kerry. He was not but (not surprisingly) knows Kerry. This fellow is from Washington state.

Big Timber is a small town with a nice little old Main street with some antique stores. The lovely Mrs. W is down there now checking for things she has to have while I am in their lovely Carnegy Library on the computer!

I am looking forward to Bozeman. I can see the snow topped mountains from here.

The truck is performing flawlessly but yesterday I noticed I was grinding the rear brakes (Drat! ...only lasted 113K miles!) so being 330 pm I changed the offending pad in the back lot of the O'reily's. I was impressed with myself since I had limited tools and was not at all sure I could even get the wheel off!

Back in business today with newly powerful brakes!

Thanks for the suggestion on the restaurant! I may well check that out. I like eating different things. Yesterday in Billings I had Buffalo mealoaf! Yummm!

It's a small world. Many Fuso camper owners post on the Fuso forum on Expedition Portal so I'm guessing it was one of those guys.

I like the road trip mechanicing. Good work. It takes spunk to dig into a vehicle with limited tools and facilities at hand. Replaced the clutch master cylinder, the batteries and the starter on my road trip so far this year. More work than usual. Did the starter in a Tim Horton's parking lot. Turns out it was the batteries and not the starter. Poor diagnosis on my part although I tried to confirm a bad starter multiple ways before making the mistake. 6000 miles in 30 days for me so far and I have 1700 to go before I get home.

road trip mechanics

Tom,

Hope the trip goes well. If you can take the ride from Bozeman South to the 320 restaurant during daylight - the scenery is awesome. You go by the entrance to the Big Sky ski area, well named. When I was in Bozeman there was also a "Spanish Peaks" micro brewery / rest. that was pretty good.

Don't you hate road trip mechanical failures. I once changed a waterpump on a '70 chevy wagon in a NY State Thruway rest stop just outside Albany - trying to get to Buffalo. Had the tools with me, the "garage" was closed but they would sell me the water pump. Had my mom, fiance, brother and sister with me. A few hours later we were on the road.

Kerry.. all the best on your way home! It really turns out to be a small world, with many good people in it.

Chuck

It was not bad at all. I doubt it was three hours total from diagnosis of the problem til it was all fixed. (sufficient for getting along on the road). Due to the physical difficulties of working on the heavy truck I will have the other three pads done at home at my Indie's.

My recent engine swap on the Miata gave me the confidence to go for it instead of losing a day out our vacation.

We arrived yesterday afternoon in Bozeman and dined on home grilled Elk steaks and corn on the cob. Afterwards we went into Bozeman and there was a band playing in the street. Lots of young people there...quite a number of young ladies with slinky dresses and cowboy boots! I am growing to like this dress style!

It's a very nice little down town with lots of nice old buildings and some new ones built to fit in Architecturally.

Absolutely beautiful country!

This afternoon we are going to canoe and possibly fish up in a little mountain lake.
