Now that I'm 21, I'm trying to find ways to get good beer and liquors cheaply to my door at school.

Has anyone ever ordered beer or liquor online? In Pennsylvania it's illegal to have it shipped to your door, but in New York that is a different story.

Anyone ever have any experience or website recommendations?

Thats a good question, I solved the problem by finding a good package store.

I guess its probably like buying ammo online, you have to fax them a copy of your drivers license.

I didn't know it was illegal to have liquor shipped to PA. I've had several things shipped here. I ordered Absinthe before the ban was lifted and Damiana which is essential for a proper margarita.

Maybe it's one of those laws that is only enforced sporadically. I have heard it has something to do with the rules governing liquor distribution within each state. In VA distillers are required to distribute their products through intermediaries rather than directly through retailers, I believe.

I tried once to order Scotch from the Mcallan website, but they said they were not permitted to ship to end users in the US.

At least when I was "researching" ordering alcohol in my younger years I found most online retailers wouldn't ship to addresses in Pennsylvania and Utah. I figured it had something to do with the state liquor stores.

That last comment explains everything, I think. The states are PO'd about sales tax revenues lost because of on-line buying. Think of how much they stand to lose from on-line liquor buying. Liquor is very heavily-taxed. I have heard that 50% or more of the price of a bottle of liquor is tax.

NJ cracked down hard on that internet cigarette purchases years ago. Don't ask me how they got the names of buyers living in the state, but they did. You''re talking big money.

Buying booze online is probably just as big a fools game, especially if you are buying it from overseas. Think ATF!

Used to work for a company that made two way satellite comm/tracking systems for trucks. Some of our biggest US customers were driven to invest more by the possibility of preventing the theft of cigarette loads than all other benefits combined.

I've purchased cases of wine online to be delivered at my parents' place in CT. Never had any problems, just have to be sure they will ship it. At least for wineries, some states regulate how many units they can ship in/out of the state--I have encountered a wine that could be shipped to CT in May not be able to in November because they reached their cap.

It depends on the state. Usually the online liquor merchant will have a page outlining what's allowed in which states. I believe North Shore Gin's website has a write-up on its site saying to which states they'll ship liquor. I was going to buy from their website and ended up finding a local place since I was in a hurry.
