Oh boy, Ima get a pair of souvenir sample ones for my brother !!!

He is in CA. but breeds, boards and sells reptiles for a living!! Did you know, you can ship snakes on the Greyhound bus?

His first reptile pet was one of these. Around 1957 or so.

Didn't they make a movie about Snakes on a Bus...?

And I'm not a herpetologist, but even I know greyhounds aren't reptiles, not even '57 models.

Since our now newly designed standard plate sucks so much, I'm going for a personalized Columbia memorial plate.

I'm a Science nut and I believe the fees go to a good cause and a small way to pay tribute to crew, it says:

From the $30 specialty plate fee, $22 goes to the Texas Aerospace Commission to make grants benefiting the Aviation and Space Foundation of Texas for the purposes of furthering aviation and space activities in Texas and providing Columbia Crew memorial scholarships to students.

If you're asking is the image shown that of the Columbia, then it's tough to say. It did explode over Texas and much of the debris landed in Texas. The old plates had a little silhouette of a generic shuttle, but that's because of NASA in Houston, I think.

I think they've gone WAAAAAAY overboard on the plates. Red Grapefruit? Cotton Bolls? Florida Gators?

https://rts.texasonline.state.tx.us/NASApp/txdotrts/SpecialPlateOrderServlet?grpid=60&pltid=96

I guess they'll put anything on a plate if it means an extra $30.

That's why!!!!!!!! You just figured it out, it's because of mission control in Houston! It makes sense now! I didn't understand why there was a shuttle, thanks Yak!

Yeah there are way too many lame plate designs... Did you see the "smile Texas style"? Haha and the sad thing is I saw that on the road, I'd be so embarrassed to drive out of state with that thing, heck driving around town with it! I really do like the Columbia memorial plate, can't wait to get it! Just waiting for a move to a house in about a week so I can use the new address, can't wait to take off these new standards...

My girlfriend is in grad school in Austin, and we've also had the new Texas license plates are ugly conversation. Compared to everything else, I kinda like the red grapefruit! It's healthy. And, the Texas trees one is also pretty good; it has nice alliteration too.

Texas is well steeped in Space Travel...

"Houston? We have a problem!"

Texas has always had, at least, a tracking station, right?

I believe the plate is not really paying homage to the Shuttle alone, but more to the space-industry, first and foremost.

This may be the only thing I agree with Joe on.

The onlist decals I run are Indy Region SCCA decals on my Miata and Hoosier tire decals on the front and back windows, strategically located to not interfere with any vision.

Indiana has a bunch of specialty plates including a Ball State (my alma mater) one but they cost 45 extra and only half goes to the university, the rest is extra tax.

The only one I might run is the Purple Heart one, which is IMHO a classy design but of course I am not a vet. I hope they don't have to pay extra for those because they earned them the hard way.

http://www.myplates.com/Content/PressRelease/AuctionFootballFeverRelease08-23-10.pdf

August 23, 2010 (Austin/Dallas, TX) My Plates is adding an additional 22 new plate combinations to the previously announced 10 that bidders will now compete for at the first-ever Great Texas Plate Auction.
Add in the “Bidders Choice” that will allow one lucky Texan to make his or her own word or phrase, and 33 exciting plate combinations will be up for grabs.
To better support the newest plates, and allow for winning plate combinations to be placed on an even larger collection of designs, the Great Texas Plate Auction will
now be held January 13, 2011 at Dallas Cowboys Stadium. The Auction will offer 7-character license plate combinations – such as COWBOYS – for the first time ever in Texas, as well as some highly desirable 6-character combinations.

I've always thought that the "myflorida.com" thing looked stupid. Is it too much to ask for, say, just "Florida" in that spot?

I'm not willing to pay an annual fee for a specialty plate to get rid of it, though.

The new standard Texas license plate? Ugh! What a disaster!

Friends of mine that lived on 1+ acre in the Preston Hollow neighborhood of Dallas, Texas, had FARM TRUCK on their CTD Dodge 2500 pick up. There's advantages tax-wise to live in the country. They own rural property down toward Mexia.

I toldja there was a Horned Toad specialty Texas plate!

Where TCU (Texas Christian University) in Fort Worth, Texas came up with the; "Horned Frogs" mythical BS, only an Aggie would know. Har - har!

Betcha didn't know that the Horned Toads are gettin' scarcer 'n scarcer because of the Fire Ant. Seems the Fire Ant is eating all the large Red Ants, and the Red Ants are having to move farther west - 'cause the Fire Ants been eatin' 'em!

So, if ya wanna see Horned Toad, they're predominantly out toward Lubbock and points west, 'cause they feed on the Big Red Ants.

Besides - there's enough people that may take it upon themselves to stalk you.......they don't need personal/specialty plates to help them, is how I see it.
