Rant: dudes in their 20s don't own tuxes

Here's the back story,

I was invited to a grammy pre party in Beverly Hills (pretty cool eh? ).

Needless to say, I went around looking for a wing man for the event and hit up some of my friends.

This surprised me, none of them owned a tux.

I ended up taking a friend of mine who doesn't even go to my school and had a great time.

Well my issue now is, I've been invited to more of these black tie formals which in my mind is fraggin awesome.

But I can't find a dude who owns a tux. Girls are absolutely no problem since any girl worth her weight owns an assortment of cocktail dresses.

I've used my tux almost yearly for the past 6 years! The thing is fitted and looks great.

Seriously is it that difficult to own a tux? I literally ranted to all my bros that real men own a business suit and a tux just for the possibility of something like this. And besides the awesome networking opportunities it is, none of them bother to go out and buy one.

I have news for you. Most dudes in the 30s, 40s, and 50s don't own tuxes either. Rental is the way to go unless, of course, you attend many formal events.

You're talking strictly about tuxedos right? Suits wouldn't work at these parties?

I have a tux. Got it for $20 at a thrift store, I've worn it at least once or twice a year for the last 5 years, although I'm quickly outgrowing it. How does one get invited to all these spiffy parties?

this is a joke right? The next guy I meet who used a tux 5 times or more over 10 years will be the first. In fact, most of them used a tux once, to get married. Not everyone travels in the same circles you do. Suits, yes, everybody should own a suit. A tux is a rental item for a specific purpose for the vast majority of people.

makes as much sense as stating that "all real men should own a hazmat suit"

I second the how does one get invited to these parties? Whats your connection/angle?

I own one, and I prefer my vodka martinis stirred, not shaken.

I don't own one I don't need it. I have a couple sport jackets a Zegna and Brooks Brothers for formals at the Yacht Club but that's about it.

If you want to run in those circles spend the money on a good tux, most people don't so they just rent them. Its not your friends fault that they don't have them, if they want to hang with you at the parties they will purchase them, if not they won't.
