The best news you'll hear all day

Quote:
Mercedes has just signed off a new engine family which will see most full-sized Mercs in future run four-cylinders, downsized V8s and… straight sixes.

A friendly Mercedes engineer recently met CAR to disclose the engine plans for future models, including the surprise disclosure that Merc plans to switch to straight sixes, like its rivals over in Munich.

It's fair to say I almost choked on my breakfast croissant when I found out the details of the next MB engine generation which has just been signed off for release in 2015.

Looks like MB is positioning itself to have a sort of renaissance with solid, simple, and robust platforms.

I'm already pretty happy with the C250, except that they dropped the manual transmission. Wouldn't have traded for my GTI for that reason.

Not too long ago, wasn't it also Mercedes "plan" to cease production of gasoline powered engines?

As long as they're oil money in the middle east, you can rest assured.

Well, I have to admit I was getting ready to be skeptical when I saw the thread title.
But when I heard of the return of the straight six I thought YES!
But then I read all the way to the end of the article...
Renault/Nissan engines in Mercedes Benz's?
That's the end of it for me. As far as I'm concerned Mercedes Benz no longer exists. I'll never spend a dime on a new Mercedes if they have become mongrolized in such a manner.
