First, I don't think the BMI index is accurate for all people. I sort of works for me and my frame size. I'm roughly 5' 11" to 6 ft. I do stand behind that you can cut to much calories out, and your body will rebel. I do agree that fiber is part of the equation. It helps pull out toxins etc. Part of the problem is that a lot of foods are nutrient deficient. So, your body is hungry till you eat enough to supply the viatmins, minerals etc. you need. I do take some vitamin suppliments etc. That gets tricky, as to the types, bioavailabilty etc.
I am more in the Blood type diet camp. There are some other influences, like Dr. Mark Hymen and some others. Keeping toxins out, and getting rid of them ones that get in. Its a big challange in todays enviroment. Tom |

In the words of Michael Pollan, here's your diet: "Eat REAL food, not too much, mostly plants."
Eat everything fresh. No processed anything. No "convenience" foods. Stay out of the center aisles of the "grocery" store, that's where the high fat high carb high salt crap is concentrated. If you snack a lot, purge your pantry of snacks. I refuse to buy that garbage anymore. Chew gum. Celery sticks, carrots or something but get rid of the bagged snacks altogether forever. My wife moans about not losing her last 10 pounds and then I find Dorito's bags and peanut butter cup wrappers in the trash bag in her car. "I just need something for the drive home, that's all!!" Oh Ok, so then the calories don't count. I get it. Eat less, move around more. Pick up heavy things and move them.

It's not. I'll give you an example. In 1970, when Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in Hercules in New York, he weighed about 250 lbs. At 6' 2", that give him a BMI of 32 or OBESE. Did he look obese to you in that film?
A shot-putter acquaintance of mine in college summed it up nicely, if not completely accurately: "BMI is only accurate for people who've never lifted a weight in their lives." Quote:

They can't seem to figure out my BMI, because my penis accounts for 25% of my body weight.

Not all processed food is bad. The low sodium sliced turkey with herbs I get from costco is pretty good for you.

Reading the specs on some of you folks pre-post-weightloss, I'm just one, sorry, bago'$h!+!!!
But...things are looking up... Around the 29th of August, I decided to "cold-turkey" the "DEW" and start myself on a self-imposed weight-loss program. Why? At 5' 5" (± 0.5") and 297lbs. (digital scale, unfortunately...accurate), life was beginning to suck...and my knees weren't enjoying the daily pounding (pun...sorry!) of moving forward/backward/couch-ward on a day-to-day basis. And cutting out the item of my self-inflicted-style-of-demise was the logical first place to start... And what was that method? I quit drinking mass-quantities of alcohol (I MIGHT HAVE, maybe, one-two beers every other month or so...) back around the time of the '82 World Series, so my alternative "drink of choice" became the "DEW" of television/radio fame. And it's proven to be JUST TOO MUCH SUGAR/HIGH-FRUCTOSE SYRUP for anyone to consume on anything that would resemble a normal day...let alone on a regular basis... ![]() I can't even begin to tell you how much/day I was consuming...but water was a DISTANCE 2nd to it. Now, since that wonderful day back in August, I've gone from 297#s, down to 244#s and it's all due to just switching from the "sirens' song of drink" to the regular tap-water I'm drinking in place of the sugar'd crap. I've had some lemonade/Gatorade-style drinks during the earlier stage of time (used as a "weaning-agent") during the initial days of dumping the "DEW" from the daily intake. (Ashamedly, the "DEW" was, sometimes, the ONLY intake.) ![]() A side-bar to the "de-DEWing?" I've also lost the taste/craving for anything MickeyDs'-related (regardless whether it's the "King"/"Star"/"KFC" or whatever...). When will I, eventually, hit the "Michaelangeloic-David-type" state? ![]() Never... ![]() But, staying away from the "DEW" (and its devil-spawned brethren) is a decent start... ![]() (Did I just hear the sound of PEPSICO/YUM-branded stock tanking?) ![]() (Only my digital scale will know for sure!) .

Nope. BC gave me a "licking" and eventually, allowed me to continue "ticking."
I'm feeling much better...now...
