Pothole on I-70 causes cracked wheel
Running to St.Louis 2 weeks ago to get a transmission of 04diesel. Just west of Indy, about 2 miles west of interchange with I-465, I hit this awful pot hole in a center lane, driving wife's beautiful 2003 Jaguar 2.5 X type AWD. Probably was up to speed say 75, maybe 80 and hit this godawful hole in the road. Stopped up the road at the rest area just to check that all the wheels were on. Didn't see any damage at the time. We don't use the car very much but Pastor Steve wanted to use it for a trip to Louisville Saturday. I was bringing it to his home when I noticed I had a flat right rear. Darn but it is hard to see in the garage that you have a flat on those idiot low pro tires. Well, I aired it up and it held for his trip but was down to 20 psi when he brought it back. So I took it to the tire shop this AM. Yup, the right rear is cracked and the right front is bent. Didn't Obama release some shovel ready money to cover those incidents? I thought I heard that, but maybe I was dreamin. I think he was supposed to, but that was the day is telepromter wasn't working. Will my "comp" cover it? The city of Indianapolis will pay your claim if you push hard enough and are willing to wait them out. I haven't heard of the Interstate paying for damage. Has anyone heard that they will.

Obama is to blame for you hitting a pot hole? Perhaps Obama can send you some new glasses.

Was this on an Interstate? If so, would the city have the responsibility to maintain the road?

I believe each individual state DOT is responsible for maintaining their portion, from which they are reimbursed from the feds from fuel taxes. Perhaps his GOP gov can send him some new glasses.

If the roads were in good condition, we wouldn't need to hire road repair companies to continuously repair them.

It's the road's fault.

I didn't know that a road could become a registered Democrat, at least outside of Chicago.

Our interstates are outdated and outmoded for current automobile technology. The only reasonable infrastructure I have enjoyed driving on is all the freeways in Las Vegas.
If you want to tell me that the United States can't produce an equivalent system to the autobahn, that's fine. But the only reason is not due to lack of technology, but due to union labor milking jobs for as long as they can. Just last year, I-95 collapsed in Milford, and had to be shut down. That bridge was longer and wider than the Quinnipiac bridge I frequent EVERY day. Fixed in no time. The new Q bridge has been undergoing construction for over 6 years, and isn't even on schedule. It isn't Obama's direct fault, no. We could play semantics on blame, but there's no excuse for the condition 90% of America's decrepit roads are in. Semantics aren't going to help either.

Well there are really better road around. We were in the Netherlands a couple years back, I think it rains and freezes there all winter, but their roads are beautiful. They have too many cameras taking your picture when going over the speed limit, but what the heck. Anyway, the road were wonderful. On this trip to close to St. Louis, we could see the arch across the mighty Mississippi, we found I-70 in Illinois to be very nice. We went to Cinncinnati last Saturday to pick up a 240D and a 4speed all in one piece. On that trip we noted that I-74 was very nice. But I-70 is still main street in the USA and really gets a lions share of the HD trucks. As long as we have bumper to bumper trucks grossing 72,000 and some even more, I guess we will have to put up with busted roads. They say that if you got it, it came by truck! Oh Jolly Roger, I never ever read your senseless and empty posts, unless included in a quote, and they are still empty.

Obama has presented a bill to Congress with more highway spending, and as usual, the Do Nothing Except Defeat Obama Congress blocked it once again. Perhaps voting for Democrats next time will help. |

Unions are only partly to blame. We also have a much lower population density than the Germanic countries, meaning that we have many more miles of "autobahn" per capita to maintain. Plus a harsher climate to deal with.

Odd that one proclaims the superiority of the Autobahn, a system maintained by the most unionized labor force in the world, while at the same time somehow blaming unions for a pothole in the US. How exactly does that work?

It would be called maintenance then.

Jim, Obama sent the money to Indianapolis. Our beloved (by some) Governor decided where to spend it.
Blame your man Mitch!

I think he sent it back Tom. He prolly should have fixed that pot hole first. But since he sent it back, we don't have to pay it back. Not too bad. I just want a new wheel!
