I would think for a backup gun when hunting dangerous game it would be good. You certainly don't want to face down a tiger or cape buffalo with a 44 mag if your main gun has an issue.

I've been reading Elmore Leonard's "Djibouti: A Novel" (William Morrow, 288 p, $14.99 hardcover) and one of the characters regularly shoots a .600 ne long gun. There's a passage where he is letting some angry Somali pirates use it to try and shoot a target that's fairly close and they all end up with their shoulders and egos bruised.
I'll let the wizards debate my choice of "long gun", but I didn't want to use "rifle" and start another argument. For the same reason I purposefully didn't refer to any of the ships, boats, skiffs or other seagoing vessels. If you're an Elmore Leonard fan, you'll like the book. If not, don't bother, this one won't make you a believer. |
