On this board, if you type too quickly, even though you press the keys on your keyboard, the letter doesn't show up in the post. For instance, i will type the below line without going back to correct things.
This is an exmple of what th computrdoes whenever try to type fas this is REALLY annoying, moderators is there any fix? is it just me? Ryan

Seeing as how I spend an awful lot of time pounding on a keyboard (here and reports, etc at work) I can safely say it isn't the keyboard or computer. The problem lies in your digital mastery of the keyboard, when you are trying to type fast, your brain is a step or two ahead of your fingers (both of them
![]() ![]() I learned to type on an ancient Government manual typewriter, two fingers and a thumb. You'd be surprised at how fast one can type that way.

Mike, theres not many topics that i will disagree with you on but this is definately one of them. I know for a fact several times that i strike the keyboard and it doesn't type it in. Also, the problem comes and goes, and even when i type really slow to try to get it to not do it, it still happens. Interesting that i'm the only one with this problem , any clues on how to fix it on my computer? could it be my aol connection?

A lot can go wrong with computer keyboards. First you have to press the key down enough to send the scan code to the processor (i.e. make a character), second, since so many folks live in front of their computer, the keyboard catches little bits of hair, finger nails, pins, pens, straw, lint, food, pencil lead, and even chicken bones. In my 20 years of working with computers, I have pulled a lot of stuff from inside of keyboards. Insects are particularly copious at certain times of the year. Anyway, virtually anything can come between the contact of the key and the mechanism that makes contact. Once this happens, even though everything feels okay, the key will not send a scan code, and no characters will appear. Further, the process of pressing the key will sometimes clear the problem so that the next time you press the key, it works okay. Sometimes just the sweat and oils from your fingers will trickle down and cause this same problem. Lastly, there are some real pricks of viruses out there that will make a character disappear every so often. And if that weren’t enough, Mike is dead on in that there is simply a brain-finger misfire that happens.
The solutions: 1) compose off-line, run the spelling correction, and then cut and paste it into a reply (I’ve done this for 20 years and will continue to do so); 2) occasionally turn your keyboard upside down and shake it. You will be appalled at everything that comes out; 3) stand it on end and tap it against the table top. Do this all the way around and then shake it out some more. 4) If this doesn’t work, you can either spend an hour taking it apart (fun to do just to learn a little about how these are made) and cleaning it or, 5) get some air in a can and blow it out aggressively; or my favorite: 6) spend a $20 or so and get a new keyboard. Life is too short to get frustrated by finger exercises! Of course, that’s easy for me to say as I have about 14 spare keyboards….. Cheers

Fingers crossed, hope this works.
I've been trying to respond that there might be a possiblility of a problem with your keyboard, but that has already been discounted. There might be something in the lag with your connection to AOL. I don't use AOL and have no lag, perhaps one of the other AOL users can post if they have had similar problems.

Ryan,
If you're a particularly fast typist, and you don't have a very fast connection to the internet, you may be "outrunning" your connection. I have had DSL for a year or so, and do not ever have that problem, but when I had a regular modem I remember having that happen to me every now and then, particularly when typing into a Yahoo! e-mail account. Do a test by typing a long letter in WORD or some similar program. If the same problem does not occur when you type a WORD document, or with other software in your computer, then that's most likely your answer. I'm far from being a computer guru, but a little "educated guesswork" brought me to that conclusion. Mike

I run into this problem if my computer is trying to run something in the background, say if another internet window is downloading something while you are typing in the forum window.
